Scheherazade? More like Zadie’s fame. It’s time for folklore to get hot again with queer feminist film 100 nights of hero. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Isabelle Greenberg, the new film adaptation follows a young bride named Cherie (Scream Queen Maika Monroe), who is abandoned by her husband (Amir El Masry) in the care of the sexy Manfred (Nicholas Galitzine) and her maid Hero (Emma Corrin). Unbeknownst to Sherry, her husband Manfred made a bet that if he could seduce his wife within 100 nights, he would give Manfred the entire estate. To keep her on track, Hero tells Sherry stories every night, loosely adapting the framework of the classic collection of Arabic folk tales. One thousand and one nights. “Anytime you need rescuing, I’ll tell a story,” Hero promises in the exclusive trailer. Along with the dreamy main cast, the trailer offers glimpses of Richard E. Grant as the local god Birdman, Felicity Jones as Moon/the Narrator, and Charli XCX as Rosa, a character in the hero’s tales.

The appeal of the trailer comes from the competition. Hero and Manfred both want Cherry’s attention, and they constantly outdo each other in swoon-worthy ways. “There you are,” Manfred says to Sherry. “I was hoping we could grab a drink.” But it is the hero who answers: “I want to have a drink.” Then, when Manfred responded that there were “only two glasses,” Hero insisted, “I could use the flask.”

100 nights of hero It is written and directed by Julia Jackman, who directed the musical comedy Bonus trackbased on a story by Josh O’Connor, will be released in 2024. The film will be released in theaters on December 5. See you at bedtime.
