“House of Guinness”: loose on historical facts, but a good company

“House of Guinness”, as in the famous junction factory in Dublin, begins to evacuate the responsibility “inspired by the real facts”, which is another way to say “Do not believe everything you will see.” Or, in “Dragnet” -Speak, “The names have not changed, and we have no desire or commitment to protecting innocents. This is a drama, and in any case, you cannot legislate the dead.” The frame may be sound, but the pictures are fake.

The names that have not changed in the series, which date back on Thursday on Netflix, belongs to the four children of Benjamin Lee Guinness, who grandmother Create a signature porter In 1778, they are Arthur (Anthony Ball), Edward (Louis Citerdge), Ann (Emily Verne) and Benjamin (Fion Ochia). When we start, it was in 1868, and Benjamin Lee, who just died, left the beer factory in equal shares to Arthur, who was far away in London for five years, losing his accent and finding peace, and Edward, who was largely running the place. Anne, only a woman, one married, is mainly overcome; Benjamin, who suffers from problems with drink and gambling, is given a small allowance, because, as it was expressed in the will of his late father, “I feel that it is wise to not burden Benjamin with the temptations that come with wealth.”

As shown here, neither Arthur nor Edward, whose professional experience is often represented by signing the papers and sometimes wandering in his factory – you will not learn anything about how to make Guinness – seems able to manage the beer factory. But all that really matters is that each of them is a tormented romantic and he will have to find a way to flourish in their uncomfortable partnership.

In fact, as a viewer in search of entertainment instead of enlightenment, it is best to deal with these characters, no matter how much it is related to the real people they bear, as completely fictional. There is also, of course, that mixed characters in this work do not have realistic counterparts, and thanks to their destinies that are not written in books or Wikipedia pages, they are subject to the whims of the creator of the series, Stepy Night (“Peaky Blinders”, “A Thousand Lows”), which creates opportunities for the exchange that may lack otherwise.

Among these creations are Sean Ravieri (James Norton), the attribute of the Guinness family, a handsome filling that the women, and the wonderful beautiful women, Eileen Kokran (Nama McCormak), a Catholic fire that he deems better towards the independence of Irish from throwing rocks in Mansey “Hirsis”. For some reason, Fenians, who was embodied by the brother of “Bonehead” from Ellen Patrick (SEAMUS O’Hara), a intentional presence and no declaration of the movement, decided that targeting Guinness (the rich and Protestants) would get it somewhere.

Regardless of politics, the family family and wealth that do not worry in particular for family work – I mean that you can still request Guinness – the main concerns of this historical melodrama, this tree opera, if you will, outperform the hearts and breasts. Accepting skeptical of a meeting with Edward in the spirit of the judiciary, Elien feels the electricity that provokes the continent between them, and vice versa. (More acceptable, Edward also has eyes for his cousin Adelaid Guinness, who was played by Ann Skill, who had nothing for him. Well, we all saw this story.

But wait, there is more! In this saying, at least, Arthur is gay, a problem for him as a person who lives in a very sir country in the late nineteenth century and a representative of the family and its named product. If his orientation becomes known, it is suggested that the world stop drinking beer, and the family will have to live on millions of pounds in the bank and anything they can get rid of the numerous real estate they own throughout the country. (Whenever the contemporary numbers are mentioned, the translations of the full screen are translated into the equivalent of 2025, only until you realize how these rich people were. The chain budget is not enough to make it easily clear.)

Arthur’s complications, which are not a secret among his non -wise brothers, made him A) a goal of blackmail, and B) in an immediate need for a wife, especially since he is about to stand on his late father’s seat in Parliament. Aunt Agnes Guinness (Darfla Kirwan), the birth of the story, marriage, Olivia Hedges (Daniel Galligan), who is very happy with stability to obtain the maximum freedom and a large number of responsibility, who curse in an unimaginable way. (But, in fact, words F and Sh-Words fly everywhere in this offer.)

What about Ann, burdened with lazy disease and a lesser -sex husband? Its romantic pain in urban renewal and other good works will be sublime. (In fact, the family had a charitable bent, and the company was before his time in dealing with its workers well, including pensions that start in the eighties of the nineteenth century – which reach a moment here – and provide medical care for employees and their families, and that many of this country was unprecedented. They were less developed, however, for many years, when it comes to Catholic.)

What next? There are strange amateurs for a character named Bayron Hedges (Jacques Jacilon), who is an illegitimate cousin who arrives to sell himself as a man to represent their interests in America, which Edward is keen to expand; We get some scenes in New York. There is a Potter (Michael Machalaton), the servant, dry, which looks at calcification on the younger Guinness but remains loyal, as the servants do. The Bonnie Champion (David Wilmot), the head of the charismatic crime, who also participates in the company’s export work.

There is nothing hidden about “House of Guinness”, which indicates its points in the introductory sentences-sometimes with the Irish prose-Y-gives its characters barely a moment to relax and enjoy the porter, swelling of soundtrack with modern Irish rock music and rap to make it exciting for the 2025 people. The characters are the type that you have seen in this type of dramatic work that enjoys Jaba in 1868. But the actors inhabited their roles with commitment, so that the bad company is a good company. Creek is good, as they say there.
