The Charlie Kerk tour continues on the campus. Will students continue his legacy?
While students were flowing to Virginia Technology Hall, and moving via metal detectors and police officers, they had a replica of the tent that conservative activist Charlie Kerk at Utah Valley University sat two weeks ago when he was killed and killed. Many attendees took pictures under the fake umbrella with the slogan of Mr. Kirk “prove me a mistake”, along with a picture of him.
The empty tent and the police dogs were an immediate reminder of the difference in the difference of the Turning Point Usa event with many of the previous college discussions held by Mr. Kerk during his life – and the challenges awaiting us at a time when the Republican Party tries to build on its success with young voters.
“The question that was asked again and again is” who will be the next Charlie? “The next Charlie will be,” he told the audience, who filled the hall of approximately 3000 seats.
Why did we write this
Supporters of the dead conservative activist Charlie Kirk pledged to expand the conservative youth movement. With the resumption of the Turning Point Usa Campus tour, students participate in Virginia Tech their vision of the issue.
Since the death of Mr. Kirk, Turning Point says it has received more than 120,000 requests For new classes in universities and secondary campus, and a rotating list of conservative and political influencers – such as the governor of the state, Yongkin and Bodkster Megain Kelly here in Virginia Tech – participated in hosting the remaining guests in the remaining round During the next two months.
“There is a huge ecosystem for people who resemble Kirk and can capture the place where he stopped,” says one of the ports, the Republican Party, who asked not to be identified by speaking freely. “There will be a full range of people who enter the field for the next few months who can have a lot of effect.”
But when Mrs. Kelly opened the room to the questions, it became clear that Mr. Kirk’s total rounds – or at least these tours will not be present in the way they were before.
Conservative colleagues, with the exception of two of the 25 questions, have asked at least the fans of Mrs. Kelly. There was no kind of “proof of error” that made Mr. Kirk virus in his clips on social media. There was no kind of backward conversations between the two sides that Mr. Kerk praised. Perhaps this was because of the site change. The arrival of the hot dark hall with layers of security was not available like the previous events of Mr. Kerk, when he sat in the campus promoter as the students walked. Perhaps it was due to the main headlines. Students with leftist tendencies may not feel the same clouds to discuss Mrs. Kelly as they did.
Or perhaps this was because of this political moment, when the bitter partisanship and accusations are sharpened after the death of Mr. Kirk, which raised questions about whether there was an appetite for the same kind of strong discussions that he defended.
Instead of provocative moments, the audience presented a large -scale friend of the province, such as: What is the extent of Israel’s impact on our policy? What is your Starbucks request? How can I coexist with liberals as conservative Christians?
A copy of this last question has been asked several times.
Ms. Kelly said, “I don’t think you should talk about politics,” she tells the audience a story about how to make an annual trip with two friends, one liberal and independent. The journey works for them because they do not talk about politics. “Unless you really love each other and feel that it is safe to try … but there is no reason to start the discussion, I think, the people with whom they oppose views with them.”
But for Mr. Kirk, that was exactly the point, as several clips stitched together to get a memorial video that was played at the beginning of the event.
“The courage and inspiration we have obtained from this moment, it will inspire a lot of Charlie Krix in the future,” says Ariel Sheloser, one of the elderly people at Virginia Tech. “It may be sufficient if we all play our role to maintain movement.”
More than ten students who met the screen before the event shared similar feelings: no one can be replaced by Mr. Kirk. But it may be enough to remember.
“I want to continue his legacy,” said Chis Wabeller, who started a class in his high school in southwest Virginia three days after Mr. Kerk was killed. “I think it will be replaced with a movement and not a unique person.”
But if there is a unique successor to Mr. Kerk at this moment, it is possible that his wife, Erika, who was recently appointed CEO and Chairman of the Turn Point Usa. Her masculinity in her husband during the weekend directed the praise of the two parties.
on A recent episode of Charlie Kerk showMickey McCoy, Chief of Staff of Mr. Kirk, said that he spoke with Mrs. Kerk recently about how to “continue the Charlie Heritage” and “10x really this organization”, and he became emotional because he felt that he was speaking to Mr. Kerk himself.
Mr. McCoy said: “I knew everything.” “From the way you send texts to the way you speak, I can say with confidence that I feel that Charlie is still leading this organization.”
