Where does USC go from here with a high school that you fight?
After an inconsistent start of the secondary season at the University of Southern California, the defensive coordinator stood in front of a cadre of cameras and did not float the words. He said that there was a lot of coverage coverage that leads to many great passes. He planned to spend a week by farewell to studying the movie with a microscopic focus in the hope of understanding exactly what happened.
“The low light cannot be low,” he said. “You can only say that this sometimes happens. These things cannot happen.”
This coordinator was Alex Grench, speaking in September 2023. Six weeks later, he was expelled.
Conditions are not enormous for the defense of the Trojan horses – or the successor of Greench, De Anton Lane – in October 2025. But the problems of big plays have continued since then. In fact, they were the worst this season than they were under the former USC coordinator, despite the fact that USC did not play after 40 years.
Through five games, USC abandoned 51 passes of 10 yards or more. This is the eighth worst in the country, equivalent to more than 10 plays for each game. And against Illinois, this tendency to allow the explosive plays to the USC bite in a brutal loss.
“The defense of the pass should be improved,” said Lincoln Riley, California University coach, after the match. “It wasn’t good enough.”
Two days later, when he was asked about the high school condition, Riley took a more encouraging tone. He said: “The back corner had,” he had some mistakes here and there. “He added that taking the biggest pass in the game outside the equation, and” it would be difficult for them to overcome us. “
If his corner has the same confidence that comes out of the loss, it can be another question. How to respond to goodbye this week, with major competitions against Michigan and Nutrdam, may eventually determine the course of the USC season.
“Confidence, you cannot fake it,” said Riley. “We are doing enough good things that must appear on and there should be confidence in that, but if we continue to make some of the mistakes we made, whether it was a coverage that has been seized, or is not similar to not taking advantage of football – those that can be controlled.
Three dependent moments were associated in the second half last Saturday directly to charge errors from their defensive appearances of the University of South California. A pass in Illinois went in the third quarter to get a degree of 64 yards after the safety bishop Fitzgerald took a bad corner in the running Justin Vien, and a corner in the area failed to get rid of the blocks. After that, in the fourth quarter, another back was burned, Brailon Conley, twice in the plays of an explosive pass – first, when he was beaten because of his landing on the center, and then, the possession that followed, when he fell in the defense by an obstacle that exploded for 61 yards.
Most of the mistakes of the most obvious group in the big plays this season attributed to the collapse in communication. These issues were only aggravated last week in the absence of safety, Camera Ramsay, who recently seized the transmission of calls from secondary lines.
Ramzi should return next week, but Riley said this week that communication about the defense was a major USC axis.
For Fitzgerald, the week was an opportunity to “fully reset everything” in the secondary stage.
“It really focuses more on the same things and trying to implement as a whole,” said Fitzgerald. “As a defense, if 10 men do one thing but one person does the wrong thing, it is a play that has been seized. We cannot bear it. So we just try to make everyone on the same page.”
As Trojan horses enter the most difficult extension in their schedule, it is not clear to which the coaches will exceed more in the angle to move forward.
Early injuries of this season robbed USC from two of the most experienced differences, the Prophet Brown and Shasan Johnson. Then last week, when USC highlighted the loss to Illinois, Decorus Nicholson Rinda Redemit was inside and outside the squad with what appeared to be the bold knee strings.
However, Nicholson was the most covered angle at the University of Southern California in five weeks. On the other side of it, the Redshirt Marcelles Williams student began the last three games, but she did not escape in any way.
DJ Harvey was brought from the transport portal to be a major contributor to the corner, but he did not say these expectations. He played only five shots last Saturday, despite the terrible depth of the team in the corner, but one of those plays resulted in an invitation to overlap over the Illinois campaign that won the game.
“We are somewhat young on the ocean at the present time, without being a prophet and a messenger,” Riley said. “We need [Harvey’s] Experience to attend. His appearance in this next stage of the season will be important to us, and it will get every opportunity to do this. “
It was the most unconfirmed spot in high school in the hole, as Riley has yet to find a substitute capable of Brown. But USC may have an answer to the road in the form of a real student Alex Graham.
Graham was distinguished early during the California University of Presseason, but it has been on the shelf since then. The coaches suggested that he could return just next week against Michigan and may play an important role immediately in the opening, as USC relied on this point, on Ramsey.
There is not much depth in defense for USC men after that. RJ Freshman RJ sermons were one of the most desirable prospects for the corner in America, when it re -classified it in the spring to register at the University of Southern California early.
Riley has not ruled out the possibility of speeches, which should be the elderly at high school, a decisive role. He said that USC “pushes him” with everyone who is Graham in the hope that they will be ready “sooner and not later.”
Riley said: “They are two young men who are talented enough to contribute to us now.” “You are just a race with time to prepare them, to pump the largest number of actors to these men. Because they have a clear ability.”
Regardless, it will take more than two real new students to USC High School. The most urgent question now, after the suspect starts this season, is whether the rest of the group is able to correct the ship from here.
Salama Christian Pierce said: “It is not known to one of the games as a player, and do not determine it as a defense,” said Salama Christian Pears. “We keep our heads high and put the best foot forward.”
