Improve the quality of your calls with this hidden iPhone feature


Apple issued iOS 26 on September 15bring new Liquid glass redesign, Call screening and more to your iPhone.

But an older feature called sound isolation, is included in iOS 16.4can make iPhone Clearer calls to the person you’re talking to. When you enable sound isolation, it filters out background sounds that interrupt your calls. This way, if you’re on a business call or catching up with friends, you won’t be interrupted by a barking dog or construction outside your home.

Apple first added the feature alongside Broad Spectrum FaceTime calls with iOS 15 In 2021, but at this time, audio isolation is only available for regular phone calls.

To enable sound isolation, you must be on an active phone call, as the feature is not present in Settings. Once activated, audio isolation will remain on all future calls unless you turn it off manually.

How to enable sound isolation

1. Click on your phone program.
2. While on a phone call, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to access Control center.

To disable sound isolation, follow the same steps above and click standard In the phone controls. This will return your microphone to the default setting.

What are broad spectrum and automatic?

Close to the sound isolation in the phone’s controls, you’ll also find broad-spectrum and automatic. These are different MIC modes you can enable.

Unlike acoustic isolation – which suffers from background sounds dulling it – Wide Spectrum amplifies background sounds without affecting your voice. Broad spectrum is useful for calls with multiple people on one phone line. This way, everyone can be heard, not just the person holding the phone. Currently, broad spectrum is only available for FaceTime calls. Since the feature is still present in the phone controls, it may become available for phone calls in the future.
