Cody Johnson cancels remaining 2025 tour dates after rupturing eardrum

Cody Johnson, a leading contender for the upcoming CMA Awards, says he had to cancel the remaining dates on his current tour due to a damaged eardrum that requires immediate surgery.

The country star, who just picked up his first CMAS Entertainment of the Year nomination, broke the news about the cancellation and shared his health on social media.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I must share the remainder of this year’s concert performances,” Johnson wrote. “While fighting a severe upper respiratory tract and sinus infection, my eardrum was ruptured. The severity of the rupture meant that I had to undergo immediate surgery. The healing process will take many weeks, and I cannot sing during this time.”

He added, “Without surgery, my downtime could have been months. I pray for a full recovery so I can be well exposed and get back to doing what I love. Thank you Cojo Nation for the love and support now, and always.”

He also posted a video message with a bandage on his left ear, saying he was “home from surgery and it went well, as they expected.”

Johnson had six dates left on his schedule this year, all of them in arenas or at festivals: October 18 in Pittsburgh, October 24-25 in Birmingham, October 31 at Butts Losana at Bayou Festival, November 8 in Phoenix and December 5 in Las Vegas.

“Please stay tuned for an email from ticket providers for further details,” his social outburst said.

In mid-September, Johnson canceled shows in Columbus due to health issues. He wrote at the time, “I got home Monday after my Nebraska stint felt fine. Tuesday, I felt like I was walking around with a mild cold. I took every precaution I could: IVS, meds, even sweating in the sauna… Unfortunately today I woke up without a singing voice: the intense cough, the burning chest and throat.” He then said his team was working to reschedule those shows for 2026.

No word yet on whether Johnson will be recovered enough to appear at CMAS on November 19, where it is expected that, as one of the main candidates, he will receive an invitation to the top slot to perform. Representatives for Johnson could not immediately be reached for comment.

Johnson has been nominated for four CMAs, the most of any male performer. Along with Entertainer of the Year, he’s up for Male Vocalist of the Year, Music Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year (the latter two for his turn with Carrie Underwood, “I Love You”).

Along with his CMA nominations, Johnson was in the news recently when he was announced as one of three headliners for next April’s Stagecoach Festival in California, alongside Post Malone and Lainey Wilson. The next date currently on his schedule is February 14 at Louisville.
