The New York Yankees aren’t done yet. They rallied from a 6-1 deficit to pick up their biggest playoff win in franchise history, taking Game 3 of the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees scored eight unanswered runs in the middle innings to take the win, 9-6. They will now turn to rookie Cam Schlittler — whose first start of the postseason was a masterpiece in a Wild Card Series win over the Boston Red Sox — as they face elimination again on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Blue Jays manager John Schneider will likely rely on the bullpen to try to cool down the Yankees’ suddenly hot lineup.

After outscoring the Yankees 23-8 in the first two games, he needed to strike out early. But the Yankee Stadium crowd was almost immediately silenced by another Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home run.
The hard-hitting infielder tipped Carlos Rodon’s pass over the left-center field fence to immediately make it 2-0 for Toronto. The Yankees responded with a single by Giancarlo Stanton in the bottom of the first inning, but the Blue Jays took the wind out of all the Yankees’ sails in the top of the third inning.
TREY YESAVAGE of the Blue Jays makes MLB playoff history in stunning Yankees bullpen
Toronto put up four runs as a slew of RBI singles from Daulton Varsho, Ernie Clement, and Anthony Santander made it a 6-1 game and took down Rodón, just like Max Fried in Game 2 when he couldn’t go more than three innings.
But the Yankees kept hanging around and responded when Aaron Judge hit an RBI double in the bottom half of the third inning, while Stanton came up again with a sacrifice fly to score Cody Bellinger and make the score 6-3.
The Blue Jays still had a commanding lead after three innings, but the Yankees were simply looking for that one break and moment that could change everything in this Series. That’s what they got when what looked like an easy popup by Austin Wells turned into a blunder by Addison Barger to shortstop in left field.

With Wells at second base and Trent Grisham walking, Judge came to the plate with a chance to tie the game with a single. Judge has been heavily criticized for his career in the postseason, and although he has had a solid home run total in the playoffs so far, he hasn’t done what he does best – hit the ball out of the park.
If there was ever a time for another iconic umpiring moment, this was it — against Louis Farland, the Blue Jays’ high-powered shortstop who gave up two long balls to the 99th of his career.
Through the two-strike count, Judge swung at 99.7 mph off the plate inside and pulled it down the left field line. She hit the foul pole on a three-run home run to tie the game at six, and the Yankee faithful awoke to a collective roar.
Of course, the Yankees knew the game was tied and they needed more runs to keep their season alive. In the bottom of the fifth, Jazz Chisholm Jr. He got Varland’s fastball when he hit it into the second deck in right field for the team’s first lead of the series. Wells added some insurance with an RBI single to make it 8-6.
The Yankees, now leading 9-6 thanks to Ben Rice’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, needed nine hits from their top arms, Devin Williams and David Bednar, to move to game four. Williams came up with four outs, including two hits, while Bednar pitched the final five at-bats without allowing a hit.

New York also wouldn’t have been in a position to win this game had Fernando Cruz, Camilo Duval and Tim Hill shut down the Blue Jays’ offense while the Yankees pulled one back.
Game 4 will be at 8:08 PM ET at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
