Jimmy Football loses by one point, in two weeks – Jamestown Sun
MINOT — There wasn’t a lot of passing at Herb Parker Stadium on Saturday.
There was plenty of scoring, but not enough for Jimmy’s team.
The University of Jamestown football team fell 35-28 to Minot State University on October 11. The UJ loss puts the team at 1-5 for the season. Coach Brian Mestro and his team will return to action on Oct. 25 at Bemidji State.
Minot State struck first in Saturday’s game on an eight-yard run by Evan Lovett but just four minutes later, the score was tied thanks to a 3-yard run by Zach Hammett.
MSU scored again before the opening quarter ended on an 11-yard run by signal caller Carson Chrisman.
UJ outscored Minot State 7-3 in the second frame but the Beavers took the lead in the third quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run by Chrisman.
Jimmy’s last two goals were scored in the fourth quarter by Hammett and midfielder Cole Hentges. Minot State’s 11 fourth-quarter points gave the Beavers their second win of the 2025 season.
Hentges was 15-for-25 for 152 yards. The quarterback also was the team’s leading rusher with 126 yards on 25 carries. Hammett recorded 66 yards on 16 rushes.
Chrisman was 3-for-3 through the air for 58 yards. On the ground, the Beavers put up 382 yards on 61 rushing attempts.
“I am proud of our youth and their resilience,” Maestro said. “We came up short today and couldn’t finish the day we wanted to. Our guys are going to keep fighting. We’re going to prepare and we’re going to be better after the bye week. I love these kids and their belief in each other.”
