Following the death of Diane Keaton at the age of 79, Hollywood is mourning the loss of a talented actress whose work spanned decades.
After the Oscar winner’s family announced her death on Saturday, many of Keaton’s industry peers took to social media to pay tribute to the late actress known for her performance in The godfather (1972), Annie Hall (1977) and many other memorable titles.
Robert De Niro, who has worked with Keaton several times since The Godfather Part Two (1974) said in a statement: “I am very sad to hear of Diane’s passing. I admired her very much, and the news of her leaving us took me completely by surprise. I did not expect her to leave us. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.”
Leonardo DiCaprio wrote on his page Instagram stories that “Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Gorgeous, funny and unapologetic. A legend, an icon and a truly kind human being. I had the honor of working with her when she was 18 years old. She will be sorely missed.”
Mary Steenburgen, Keaton’s co-star in the film Book club (2018) and Book Club: The Next Chapter (2023) said in a statement shared with Deadline, “Diane was magical. Born Diane Hall on January 5, 1946 in Los Angeles, Keaton moved to New York to pursue a career in entertainment, where she studied acting at Neighborhood Playhouse and made her Broadway debut as an understudy in hair.
Keaton went on to star in Woody Allen’s production of Play it again, Sam In 1969, she received a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play. Allen later cast her in her Oscar-winning role Annie Hall (1977), and they also worked together over the years Manhattan (1979), Radio days (1987) and Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993).
