Africa takes the show to Brazil

Showmax is expanding its successful “Real Housewives” franchise with “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa,” bringing together stellar cast members from South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria for a Brazilian vacation.

The latest installment follows the success of “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: South Africa,” which ranked as one of Showmax’s most-watched series of 2024. The new series brings together 10 housewives from across the continent in what producers call a celebration of sisterhood and African magic.

From “The Real Housewives of Durban”, the cast includes Annie Mthembu (Seasons 1-3), Angel Ndlela (Seasons 4-5), and JoJo Robinson, who has appeared in four consecutive seasons since joining in Season 2, making her the most experienced housewife in the line-up.

The Johannesburg cast is Ms. Evodia Mogasi and Crystal Kaye, two original cast members who became the first stars of the series in Africa. Madam Evodia starred in Season 1, while Kay appeared in Season 1, then returned for Season 2 and appeared in “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: South Africa” last year.

Representing East Africa comes from Nairobi with Dr. Catherine Masetsa (Dr. C) and Zina Nyambo. Dr. C appeared in both seasons of the Kenyan series, while Nyambu joined as a full-time cast member in the second season.

Rounding out the cast are Nigerian Maryam Timmer from “The Real Housewives of Lagos,” who appeared in all three seasons, and Princess Jikoko from “The Real Housewives of Abuja,” who first appeared in the first season of this show.

“The ultimate real girls’ journey on The Real Housewives: Africa is more than just a reality show, it’s a celebration of African womanhood in all its power, diversity and magic,” says executive producer Graeme Swanepoel. “For the first time, we are bringing together remarkable housewives from across the continent to share their worlds, their stories and their sisterhood. It is an unapologetically African initiative, led by women and filled with the kind of energy and authenticity that makes Africa different from anywhere else on Earth.”

The series is produced by GOAT Productions, which previously produced the third season of Unfollowed and Untied and the third season of the award-winning South African Film and Television series Life With Kelly Khumalo.

“Each African version of The Real Housewives has captured the vibrant diversity of its country while resonating with audiences both locally and internationally,” added Barry Kelly, Vice President of International Format Production and Development at NBCUniversal Formats. “And with ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa, we’re taking that energy to the next level. In partnership once again with GOAT Productions and Showmax, this series brings together some of the most incredible series.” Housewives for an unforgettable trip. We can’t wait for viewers to join them on the trip of a lifetime to Brazil.

“The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” format launched in the US in 2021 with four seasons on Peacock, produced by Shed Media. “The Real Housewives” and “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” formats are distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group.

“The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa” will premiere on Showmax on November 28.
