Mark Teixeira blames Democrats for government shutdown

The government shutdown is more than two weeks old, and the MLB star turned congressional candidate is pointing the finger at Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Mark Teixeira, who launched his campaign for Texas’ 21st Congressional District in August, said the “insanity we’ve seen on the left” has set a “horrible precedent” as the government shutdown continues.
The former Texas Ranger, Atlanta Brave and New York Yankee said Democrats aren’t doing “their job” and should be willing to negotiate.
“Elections have consequences. The side that loses the election knows they’re not going to get everything they want every time a bill is passed or a budget is passed. So you have to accept that you probably won’t get what you want,” Teixeira told Will Kane on Wednesday.

Cain showed a Reuters/Ipsos poll This indicated that 67% of voters blamed Republicans for the closure, 63% blamed Democrats, and 63% blamed President Donald Trump. But Teixeira said he did not “trust the polls,” adding that there was still a “Trump confusion syndrome” among those who blame conservatives.
“As long as there are Democrats and there are people who say that everything Republicans do is bad, even if it’s reasonable. That’s reasonable. Listen, do you want to negotiate some things? Well, give us a few weeks. We will negotiate. But don’t shut down the government and hold the American worker, the American military personnel hostage because you haven’t gotten to that point,” Teixeira said.
“I understand that not much can get passed when there is not a large majority, and we have to work across the aisle every now and then. But we will not negotiate with terrorists. We will not negotiate with a party that says: If we don’t get what we want, if we don’t change the rules, I will shut down the government.” And that’s not fair to the American people, and it’s not fair to all the Republicans who are trying to do this the right way and (saying) “Just give us a few more weeks to negotiate.”

“I just think Democrats are being unreasonable.”
In a post on X earlier this month, Teixeira said: “Democrats are destroying our country, and President Trump needs reinforcements who will fight to take back our country.”
