Jaden Ivey injury: Pistons guard will miss the start of the season after a knee procedure, and will be re-evaluated in a month
The Detroit Pistons have high hopes for the 2025-26 season after making the playoffs last summer. Along with the continued development of star guards Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, the Pistons were looking to have young guard Jaden Ivey back in the lineup after missing much of last season after breaking his leg 30 games into the year.
Unfortunately, Ivey’s return to the Pistons lineup will be delayed by a few weeks. The fourth-year guard underwent surgery “to relieve right knee pain,” the team announced Thursday. The Pistons explained that the knee problem is not related to the fibula fracture he suffered last season. Ivey will be re-evaluated in four weeks, which means he will likely be out longer, which means the Pistons will likely have to go through the first month of the season without him in the lineup.

Detroit’s backcourt will take on a different look this season than what we saw a year ago. Cunningham is back as leader, but Dennis Schroder in Sacramento, Tim Hardaway Jr. in Denver, and Malik Beasley remain in limbo among the federal and state rallies. Ivey was expected to take on an important role as this trio continued. While he recovers from knee surgery, offseason additions Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson will get more minutes than expected, while Ron Holland and Ausar Thompson could spend some time with the two.
Ivey was in the midst of his best season when he broke his leg, averaging 17.6 points per game and shooting 40.9% from 3-point range. He’ll have to wait a little longer than he hoped to get back on the field to try and pick up where he left off before his injury.
