Robert De Niro: Trump does not want to leave the White House
Robert De Niro asked Americans to continue protesting against Donald Trump.
De Niro said that after “No Kings” protests across the country on Saturday MSNBC And that the country needs to show greater resistance, because this is “the only thing politicians will acknowledge.” He added that we need to make lawmakers “more afraid of the people’s wrath” than “Trump’s wrath.”
“We can’t stop,” De Niro said. “We can’t abandon him because he won’t leave the White House. He doesn’t want to leave the White House. He won’t leave the White House. Anyone who thinks he’s going to do this, he’s going to do that. They’re just weakening themselves.”
“Most of all, Republicans know this, but they’re going along with it. It’s a classic bully situation. We see it, and there’s no other way to stand up to a bully. You have to stand up to him, fight him, back down and back away from him. That’s the only way this is going to work,” he added.
Nearly 7 million people joined the “No to Kings” protests on October 18, according to MSNBC. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s aggressive crackdown remains a major issue in nationwide demonstrations, as was the case during the first “No Kings” protests in June. The presence of the National Guard in major cities and across-the-board cuts to federal programs were major motivators for participants.
De Niro was one of many Hollywood mainstays who spoke out in support of the No Kings movement. On October 9, he rose Appeared in the video on the TikTok account of political activist group Indivisible encouraging people to attend No Kings protests.
“The original No Kings protest was 250 years ago,” De Niro said. “Americans decided they did not want to live under King George III. They declared their independence and fought a bloody war for democracy. We have had two and a half centuries of democracy since then. It is often difficult, sometimes messy, and always necessary.”
He continued: “Now we have a potential king who wants to take it away: King Donald I. Fuck that. We are rising again, this time, and raising our voices peacefully to declare: No Kings.”
