Fantasy Football: 6 unreasonable player predictions for Week 12

Hello Yahoo! I’m Derek Carty from EV Analytics and creator BLITZ projection systemwhich if you have Yahoo+, you’ll notice is available this year to help you manage your teams. Every Friday morning, I will look for three players who are expected to play above their usual level, and three players who are expected to play below their usual level. (I’ll also be doing an AMA in Yahoo Fantasy Discord every Thursday at 3pm ET, so be sure to stop by and say hello and answer your questions.)

Last week’s roster was spot on, most notably with the explosion of Michael Wilson. Chase Brown also had a very solid day with plenty of pass volume, and the pair of elite WRs I tabulated for a bad day had just that; Ja’Marr Chase and Amon-Ra St. merged. Brown on just five catches. Until week 12…

Emmanuel Wilson, RB, Packers

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 19.6 carries, 2.9 receptions, 108 yards, 0.82 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: RB6 vs RB59

This hinges on Josh Jacobs’ disappearance this week, which seems somewhat likely as of this writing. Assuming that’s the case, Wilson is an absolute smash play in Week 12. He basically had all the work completed when Jacobs left the game last week, and that’s expected to continue into this week. He’s a capable pass-catcher who can get more work done in the air, as well as most players on the floor in a game where Green Bay is favored on downs. The projection here is insanely good.

Darnell Mooney (and Darryl Hodge), WR, Falcons

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 8.5 targets, 4.6 receptions, 62 yards, 0.31 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: WR25 vs WR44

Drake London suffered a knee injury late in last week’s game and is almost certain to miss this week. When that happens, Mooney will become the team’s best passer. He’s been quiet this year after suffering an injury early in the season, but the coach’s talk recently has been very relevant. Offensive coordinator Zach Robinson had this to say about him over the past two weeks (Source: Coachspeak Index Discord):

“[Darnell] Mooney is very close to exiting. I’m excited to see when that happens…it’s so close to coming out. I can feel it in practice.

We’ve been saying for the past couple of weeks that it looks like Darnell Mooney is on the cusp of being unlocked. “I expect him to get a lot of goals at some point here, and I expect him to take off.”

With London now out, there could not be a clearer time for the team to leave Mooney. They’ll likely go with a very top-heavy game plan with Michael Penix Jr. out as well, but they’re facing a fast-paced Saints team in a game that expects the highest volume of play of the entire week.

Derrick Henry, RB, Ravens

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 20.5 attempts, 1.2 receptions, 105 yards, 0.86 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: RB10 vs RB20

Given his lack of involvement as a pass-catcher, it’s rare for Henry to outperform a projected top-10 player on any given week. But when he does, it’s in confrontations like this. When Baltimore plays from the front, Henry tends to put in more work in the passing game and carry a heavier load on the floor as the team tries to put the game away. As a 13.5-point favorite against the Jets, this is a Derrick Henry type of game.

Tyler Warren, TE, Colts

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 7.2 targets, 4.8 receptions, 53 yards, 0.39 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: TE5 vs TE3

Warren has established himself as a leading fantasy figure this year, but this week doesn’t particularly suit him. The Colts go on the road, outdoors, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, which will be a tough place for QB Daniel Jones to recover from his recent rough outing. Furthermore, Warren performs better against zone defenses, but the Chiefs play zone at the fifth-lowest rate in the league. Josh Downs and Alec Pearce tend to be more successful against shell men, so it’s possible we’ll see the offense shift more in a week where the upside of the offense as a whole is more limited than usual.

Bryce Hall, RB, Gates

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 17.4 carries, 2.8 receptions, 95 yards, 0.42 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: RB15 vs RB8

Hall is the anti-Henry this week, with the game script working against him a lot. The Jets almost play as underdogs, which means minimal opportunities for them to make a run when the game gets out of hand. It’s also possible the team could become more pass-heavy than usual, even early, with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. In their only game Taylor started earlier this year, the team was 5% more pass-heavy than average (adjusted for context) compared to 13% below average in games with Justin Fields. And while Hall certainly has a lot of pass-catching ability, he simply hasn’t been used in that role as often this year as in the past.

JJ McCarthy, QB, Vikings

Expectations for the eleventh week of the blitz: 34.8 attempts, 19.7 completions, 215 yards, 1.26 TD

Week 11 vs. ROS: 15.5 points versus 17.7 points per game

I’m willing to admit when I’m wrong, and I have been so far very Foul on McCarthy. I still believe that any halfway qualified NFL quarterback should be able to succeed at his position – great coaching and system, great supporting cast, home games indoors. McCarthy has been, at least in part, on the bad side of the variance, but this week is not a particularly good week for a rebound. He faces a tough Green Bay defense on the road away from the Dome.
