Senate Republicans show their independence

However, Trump conspicuously withheld his endorsement in another congressional leadership contest that same day, and Senate Republicans elected John Thune as their next majority leader. The South Dakotan governor now faces the unenviable task of managing a crowded legislative schedule, while also trying to juggle the demands of his caucus, an unruly House, and an outspoken and mercurial president.
