“Militantropos” gained by Square Eyes before the first show at Cannes Festival
Square Square Eyes Square Eyes all over the world has acquired the Ukrainian documentary “Melitantropos”, directed by Alina Gorlova (“This rain will never stop”), and Welsavita Smith (“School No. 3” and Simon Mozogovyi (“The Winter Garden’s Tille”), before The first global show in the ugly managers program.
“A strong and influential cinematic reflection on the impact of war on daily life,” said Wouter Jansen of Square Eyes “Militantropos.
The script was written by Smith, Gelova, Mouzjovi and Maxim Nikonchni, who directed and participated in the writing of “Butterfly Vision”, which was chosen for certain respect at the Cannes Festival in 2022.
“Mileitantropos” refers to the Latin word of the soldier (“” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “” “Mileitantropos”, and this means a personality that humans adopt when entering the state of war. “This uncompromising experience constitutes the constant transformation of individuals and society as a whole, and therefore Militantrop chooses to accept war as one option to existence,” according to a statement.
“Militantropos” explores “the human experience in the war – those who flee, who lose their homes, those who remain in weapons and learn to fight. Through the absence of a main hero, the film balances individual and group experiences, focusing on their relationships and turning their daily lives.” “It follows people’s reaction to hostilities, atrocities, and destruction, and transforms their daily lives, their general interaction and the spaces in which they live.”
The film was produced by Eugene Rashkovsky, the Ukrainian team movie, Tapor, also behind “Butterfly Vision”, in joint production with Ralph WieSER for harm to Austria and Nabil Belhsene for France Liz Valis.
“Our group began filming as a reaction on the first day of the comprehensive invasion. After 11 years of collective work and the experience of war side by side, it was natural that made a collective document for time and exploring war as a phenomenon.”
Wieser added: “I have been fascinated [Tabor’s] Approach from our first virtual meeting. Creative films make an extraordinary perspective of Ukraine in the war. “
“The war is not just a political political event, it is a human, brutal and intimate experience. For this reason, Tapor’s work, a Ukrainian group of filmmakers, presents immediately to us. Their view, which is based on the living experience and artistic integrity, presents a strong and necessary narration for this moment in history.”
“Militantropos” received support from the Austrian Film Institute, Vienna Film Fund, Ophy+, creative media, Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service, Special Aid to Ukrainian Artists, and Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine in partnership with CNC, SWR and Arte.
