Honoli, the highest democratic in the Supervisory Committee, to abandon the job and retirement
Actor Gerald E. Konoli of Virginia, a democratic of eight chapters, on Monday that he would not seek to re -election and will soon be abandoned as the best democratic in the House of Representatives Control Committee, where he faces cancer.
Mr. Honoli, 75, announced late last year that he was treated with esophageal cancer, but he planned to fight the disease while continuing to do his work in Washington, saying that he was “very confident of a successful result.”
In a letter to his voters on Monday, he said that the disease, “while he was beaten at the beginning, has now returned,” which prompted his decision to step down and retire in the end. Mr. Honoli said he intends to do “everything possible” to end what he said will be his final term.
He wrote: “I will retreat as a member of the Supervisory Committee soon.” “With the absence of a grudge and a complete heart, I move to this last chapter full of pride in what we have accomplished together for 30 years.”
Mr. Honoli Matthew’s announcement may not deliver his position, and his spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Government Supervision and Reform Committee is scheduled to hold a decisive hearing on Wednesday about its part of the Republican tax and spending program, which includes changes to the advantages of federal employees and gives them the option to give up the protection of civil service to earn more money.
Mr. Honoli’s decision will clarify the way for a new major democracy in one of the most party committees in Congress, which lawmakers usually use for the White House hostility and exercise their examination of the executive authority.
Republicans currently control the committee and its summons. With actor James Kumer from Kentucky, Trump’s ally, as a president, the committee has greatly focused on reopening old investigations into the Biden administration.
The committee also has a specialty in the Ministry of Governmental efficiency, and the White House initiative led by Elon Musk to significantly reshape the federal government and reduce the workforce. The actor Margori Taylor Green, the Republic of Firerand Georgia, leads the committee in this effort and used its body to the frequency of Mr. Musk’s demands about government waste.
But the successor of Mr. Honoli will not be without authority. The arrangement member oversees large employees and can invite investigations and minority sessions to the issues that cause concern. This position is also a valuable platform for the legislators, and Mr. Konoli’s replacement will be in a major position to lead the committee if Democrats regain the majority of the House of Representatives in 2026.
Mr. Honoli, whose area includes a large number of federal workers who were affected by the efforts of Mr. Musk, won an internal battle for the role last year against the actor Alexandria Okasio Cortez from New York. His victory was considered a blow to a smaller group of democratic lawmakers who rejected seniority in favor of changing generations.
Although many other veteran leaders have deviated aside or were beaten by the challenges from young colleagues, Mr. Konoli, a more moderate democratic, was chosen because of his experience.
Mrs. Okasio-Cortez is no longer a member of the Supervisory Committee, making any effort that you might make to win the situation if you try to do so.
Actor Eleanor Holmes Norton, 87, has not raised the non -voting delegate from Colombia’s province last year despite the seniority of the committee.
