Canada waives a conditional tariff for US -made cars and trucks
In a partial list of its retaliation against the American definitions, the Minister of Finance of Canada said on Tuesday that the government will allow car manufacturers to import compound vehicles in the United States exempt from customs duties provided that it continues to build cars in Canada and continued with the expansions that were previously announced.
Last week, Canada began imposing 25 percent fees on vehicles imported from the United States in response to President Trump’s drawings with the same amount on cars.
The vast majority of Canadian cars and trucks end in the United States. Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that he wanted to transfer all their manufactures to the United States, a wide range in Canada as a direct attack on the largest export in the country regardless of oil and gas.
The car trade between the United States and Canada has become tightly integrated since the two countries signed a commercial deal 60 years ago, which reduced the flow of car and relevant goods across the border. The resulting trade is generally balanced between the two countries, although there are slight surpluses in the interest of the United States.
François-Vhilippe Champagne, the Minister of Finance in Canada, did not specify in his exact statement the number of cars and trucks that he made in the United States, both the five main car manufacturers will be allowed to import without tariffs.
However, his statement indicates that these numbers will be linked to Canadian manufacturing: “The number of vehicles free of customs tariffs that are allowed to import will be reduced if there are discounts in Canadian production or investment.”
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Finance in Canada was unable to provide more details immediately. Stelantis, a major car manufacturer, refused to comment on the advertisement. Honda spokesman Ken Cheo said that the company’s factories in Alexon, Ontario, will continue to produce the largest possible number of vehicles. The other three companies did not answer the questions.
Only Toyota and Honda, which represents about two -thirds of Canadian cars production, is currently working at full capacity in Canada.
Stelantis recently stopped renewing a factory in the Brampton suburb in Toronto that would have made the pocket of gasoline and electricity, while the company described it as a temporary stop. Its largest plant, in Windsor, Ontario, is located in the middle of the closure for two weeks, which was created by American definitions.
The Ford Factory in Oakville, Ontario has now been closed for an abandoned plan to convert it to electric cars. It has now been re -equipped to make large pickup cars. General Motors announced that it would largely close the production of a vulnerable electric car selling in the Ingress, Ontario, until October.
