Chadwick Boseman’s widow reveals the actor’s creative philosophy
At a ceremony honoring her late husband on the Walk of Fame on Thursday in Hollywood, Chadwick Boseman’s widow shared the foundations of the actor’s creative success.
Simone Ledward Boseman, who secretly married him before his death on August 28, 2020, first described the “42” and “Avengers” star in Video from the event As a “spiritual teacher he was fortified by his family and close friends who kept him steadfast in the faith.”
“Chad has taught us all so much,” she said in a speech that followed words from Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom co-star Viola Davis and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. “His heart was so vast that he could give each person a specific part of himself and still have so much to share with the world.”
She said she still sees synchronicities too often to be called random — his star, for example, is No. 2,828 on the Walk of Fame — and is reminded at those times that her husband is “still teaching.”
“I have lived honorably and walked in truth,” said Ledward Boseman. “You are as amazing as you are beautiful and as brave as you are kind. We love you, we miss you, and we thank you.”
She followed this by reading her husband’s words in the form of “instructions for creative work.”

She said: “Write down the vision and explain it.” “Keep this word pinned in your journal and locked in your locked drawer until the appointed time.
“Let the thoughts and visions that God gives you fester within you. Let the Word that He has placed within you boil. Do not speak of it to anyone else until the time God has appointed.
“The secrecy of the vision is the second stone laid in the building process. It is the bulwark of the project. A word said too soon in the ears of men is a bulldozer and a stumbling block.
“Forget the self that entered the process and become a new being through action.”
For the star’s unveiling, she invited the actor’s brothers, Kevin Boseman and Derek Boseman, to the red carpet, where Davis and director Ryan Coogler met with them.
The star — in the movie category, of course — is located at 6904 Hollywood Blvd., across from the Hollywoodland Experience store.
