Comedian Ingrid Guimarães pivots to drama with “Minha Criança Trans?”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ingrid Guimarães, one of Brazil’s most popular comedians, turns from blockbuster comedies to dramas with “Minha Criança Trans?” (“My mutant child?” in the literal translation). The project is currently in development, with production set to begin in 2027. Guilherme Coelho and Mariana Ferraz will produce for Matizar Filmes, alongside Guimarães.

Vitrine Filmes, the main independent distributor of The Secret Agent, will handle Brazilian distribution and co-invest in the development of the project.

Guimarães has long been widely bankable in the South American country, holding the record for the star with the biggest national box office of the decade at just over R$23 million (US$4.2 million). The actress, who started her career on television, made a successful move to the big screen with hits such as the series “Head Over Heels” and “A Boyfriend For My Wife.” She is currently filming the Amazon comedy “Pé no Chão” for Prime Video Brazil.

“Minha Krianka Trans?” It will be written by Thamirys Nunes and based on her own experience raising a transgender child. Nunes’ struggle to find the right support – both legally and socially – led her to create the NGO bearing her name to help families facing similar issues while raising transgender children. A work that blends personal memoir and social reflection, Nunes shares her experience as a mother discovering that her child is transgender, and narrates a powerful journey of acceptance, learning, and familial transformation.

The film marks an important turning point in Guimarães’ career, as it is the first time she has starred in a drama after more than a decade of comedies. Talk to diverseThe star says the story is a “powerful reminder that love transcends labels.” “Bringing it to the screen is an artistic challenge and a very personal task. It is my first screen drama, inspired by something very real, because it is the story of Thameris.”

“The film promises to offer a brave new cinematic perspective on gender identity and family, and reinforce Brazil’s growing commitment to telling important stories,” she adds.

Leticia Friedrich, director of Vitrine Filmes, says the company is proud to “develop a film that will spark important conversations in Brazil and beyond.” “At Vitrine Filmes, we believe in the power of cinema to evoke empathy and drive social change. ‘Minha Criança Trans?’ is a deeply moving story that speaks to the heart of contemporary society. We look forward to sharing it with audiences everywhere.”

Matizar Filmes’ Coelho says it is an “honour” to produce Guimarães’ first major dramatic role. “She will move audiences as a mother who, out of love, must reinvent herself,” Ferraz added. “The film explores motherhood, listening and acceptance with sensitivity and strength, and invites viewers to follow an intimate and transformative journey. We are thrilled to witness this encounter between a beloved actress and a story that calls for tenderness and courage.”
