Dick Vitaly returns to broadcast for Duke Clemerson match


Dick Vitale, Hall of Fame, will return to the first time in nearly two years for the Saturday match, which includes Duke 2 in Clemerson at 6 pm at ESPN.

Vitaly, 85, who was fighting cancer over the three and a half years last year, announced that he was free of cancer on January 8.

Vitale’s return to communication games was postponed due to an accident at his home. Previously, he was scheduled to call the Duke of Wake Forest match on January 25, which was his first time on the air since 2023, but he announced that he was transferred to the hospital after his fall at his home in Florida.

Vitale has fought four different types of cancer in the past three years. Recently, he underwent surgery in the summer of 2024 after a biopsy of the lymph node in its neck showed cancer. Vitaly announced on January 8 that he was cancer -free.

In 2021, Vitale was diagnosed with lymphoma, months after multiple surgeries to remove skin cancer. In 2022, it was announced that it was cancer -free. Then in 2023, he was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer and underwent radiation.

The last Vitale mission was nearly two years ago – on April 3, 2023, and called on the international broadcast of the San Diego State Championship against UCONN for ESPN. He announced that it was cancer -free again in November 2023.

Vitale joined ESPN during the 1979-1980 season, immediately after the launch .
