Koko Khan’s article (Opinion, October 22) reminded me of a visit to my GP 30 years ago, after my son was born. While waiting to get in, I browsed the usual array of magazines featuring celebrities, many of whom had recently given birth and seemed to have gotten back in shape overnight. When I saw the doctor, a wonderful man approaching retirement, and asked him how he made it happen, his reply was very simple: “Corset, dear.”

• I have a question for Rachel Reeves in response to her column (October 28). Can it tell us what the income threshold is at which someone moves from the “working people” category to the “broader shoulders” category? Then everyone will be completely clear about what is coming to them in the November Budget.
