Women are not responsible for men’s mental health and certainly are not required to give up their rights and bodies for the sake of men’s emotional well-being.

The age-old threat used against women trying to stop abuse, “If you leave, I’ll kill myself,” is exactly what Mr. Drennan’s message is. Emotional blackmail is never acceptable, not in elite sports, not in “D3 only” sports, and not in grade school.

Not in the locker rooms at the Y.

To tell a young man that he can be accepted as a woman, that he must compete against women, that he must be allowed into women’s spaces, that he can become a woman—is setting him up for failure. It is not the woman’s failure to satisfy his desires, it is the failure of medicine, leadership, and culture to not fix the boundaries of reality and help him know how to navigate between them.

Women are not a tool for asserting men’s emotional support.

No one fired him. He was a recruited athlete and chose to withdraw from the team when the women who were changing next to him weren’t thrilled about having a man in their locker rooms.

I have found no evidence to suggest that he was kicked off the women’s team.

If so, that would be entirely defensible. Male athletes do not belong in female-only sports. The real tragedy here is the lies he was told. No one should “affirm” their “female gender identity.” None of this should happen. Here Ari seems to blame those who defend the physical reality of sex for this suicide. Ari is emotionally blackmailed.
