Details are beginning to emerge about the victims of a shooting at a toddler’s birthday party in Stockton, California, that left four people dead and at least 11 others injured over the weekend.
The dead included children ages eight, nine and 14, and a 21-year-old man who was shot at a Central Valley City ballroom where they had gathered with at least 100 other people to celebrate a 2-year-old’s birthday.
The authorities have not yet announced the identity of any of the victims. But family members of Amari Peterson, 14, and Susano Archuleta, 21, confirmed their loved ones were killed in the shooting.
The violence sent shock waves through the city of 320,000 people, located about 80 miles (130 kilometers) east of San Francisco. Police are continuing to search for the suspects and said it may have been a targeted incident. Investigators believe multiple shooters may be involved and are working to establish suspicious descriptions.
Heather Brent, spokeswoman for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators welcome any information, “even rumors.”
