Gary Stengart tragic from the penis in the “man who made a mistake”

Gary Stengart was only seven years old when his family migrated from the Soviet Union and settled in Queens. He remembers the transition as “leaving black and white for pure technology.” Circumcision was not implemented in the Soviet Union, and shortly after the family’s arrival in the United States, his father faced a man who goes from door to door, persuading newlyweds who have arrived in their children’s circumcision. Thus, as part of the family project represented by the suitability of their new country, Shteyngart went under the knife.

Wake up from the pain, and with an anatomical change it was not exactly the planned. In the short movie Dana Ben-Ari, Shteyngart describes the details with humor, lamentation, and helping cucumber. While Joho is mostly vicably, his account affects the deeper matters, from the ambiguity and fear that attended the procedure and its effects to the long shadow that casts his relationships and self -confidence, especially in his youth. He says: “We are dealing with the penis as a joke,” but his story is a dangerous story, about living with physical pain and the unity of feeling of difference. He says: “This country broke my penis, but he could not break my soul.”
