Halle Bailey, DDG reach custody agreement, drop restraining orders

“Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey and her ex-boyfriend, rapper D.J., decided this week to temporarily put aside their differences in their months-long custody battle over their 1-year-old son, Halo.

The musical couple, who dated from 2022 to 2024, agreed to drop their mutual requests for domestic violence restraining orders and settled on terms of temporary custody to share custody of their child, according to a stipulation filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The stipulation signed by both parties is an important development in the former spouses’ feud, which came to a head in the summer.

When Billy (of sister duo and “Do It” singer Chloë x Halle) and DDG (born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) announced their split in October 2024, the latter said “we’re still best friends and adore each other” and would be co-parenting their son. But tension between the former couple came to light in May after Billie obtained a temporary restraining order alleging the father of her child had been abusive towards them throughout their two-year relationship and had continued to behave badly since their split. “Darryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally and financially abusive to me,” she said at the time, according to court documents. Bailey, 25, asked for DDG, 28, to be ordered to stay away from her and their son.

Influencer DDG, known for his 2016 single “Balenciaga,” responded with allegations against Billy and requested a domestic violence restraining order. He accused his ex-girlfriend of “emotional instability and coercive control”, raised concerns about her “repeated threats of suicide and self-harm” and alleged instances in which she “endangered the child’s safety while she was in emotional distress”.

Although the text states that both Bailey and DDG must “immediately deny” their restraining order requests, each can file new requests in the event of future abuse.

Court documents say Bailey will have physical custody of Halo except on designated Wednesdays and weekends. The clause also specifies the custody agreement for upcoming birthdays and holidays.

The most recent court documents also address each parent’s social media use, which has been shown to be a Point of contention After the breakup. Notably, DDG brought baby Halo with him for Twitch star Kai Cenat’s live stream November 2024.

“Neither party shall post, upload or disseminate photographs, images and/or information relating to the minor child on the Internet or any social media platforms,” court documents say. Friends and family of musicians are also prohibited from posting about Halo. Additionally, neither Billie nor DDG can “disparage the party in public” or in the presence of their child, who will turn 2 in December.

Billy was a fan of DDG years before they became an item. After teasing a romance via direct messages on social media, the former duo made their red carpet debut at the 2022 BET Awards. The singer has been vocal about how she adores DDG, telling Essence that the romance was her “first deep, deep, real love.”

During their time together, the former couple faced their share of ups and downs — including DDG’s song about his ex-wife’s starring role in “The Little Mermaid” and some criticism from Billie’s older sister Ski Billie.

Halle Bailey currently has more than just family affairs on her plate.

She released her debut solo album, “Love?…or Something Like It,” on Friday. she said when announcing the release earlier this month Instagram The project is “the story of first love, heartbreak, and everything that comes after.”
