How 2024-25 CFP would have searched under proposed expansion formats

Certainly, the football team at the college will expand again in 2026, moving from the coordination of 12 teams to coordination from 14 or 16 teams. Although we do not know any of these things, it is always fun thinking about what things can look like.

In the latest episode of “The Joel Klatt Show: Big Noon conversations”, Big Ten Petitti Commissioner divided how discussions on CFP expanding, as it occupies a major role. He also participated that he is looking for more feasible games in CFP expansion and it is believed that the coordination of 16 teams can help in achieving this.

“The biggest is better,” Betty said. “I think 12 is not enough for the difference in view of the size of the teams that compete. You look at the professional championships, they are [have] Between 40 % and 50 % of their qualifying teams for the post -season season. We are less, even at the age of 16. I think we want to be really careful. “

Since Petitti is likely to search for CFP of 16 teams, the selection of 16 (or 14) will qualify for the discussion. Automatic qualifiers will be likely to participate in the form or costumes.

Therefore, let’s see how proposed formats for CFP expanding the last year can affect, given that CFP has already gone to the straight sowing model after last year.

4+4+2+2+1+3 format

In this 16 -team format, Big Ten and SEC had received four automatic offers to CFP, while ACC and Big 12 had two. There was also an automatic place for the highest group of 5 conference champions and three basic shows. With an idea at the weekend in the conference championship there as an extension of the expansion of CFP, we used the arrangement for the four main conferences to help identify the teams that would have received those automatic qualified sites.

In Big Ten, Oregon and Bensin had an automatic offer, as they had the two best conference records in the normal season. The other two matches were in Big Ten during the weekend in the conference championships (No. 6 in the Big Ten ranking) in Indiana (No. 3 in Big Tensings) and IWA (No. 5 in Big Ten Strendings) in Ohio (No. 4 in Big Ten ranking). The winner of these two games had received the two automatic shows. In this practice, let us assume that Indiana and Ouhayu won their games.

In the Supreme Education Council, Georgia and Tixas had received an automatic offer, with two best conference records in the normal season. The other two matches in the Supreme Education Council were South Carolina (No. 6 in the SEC ranking) in Tennessee (No. 3 in the SEC ranking) and LSU (No. 5 in SEC ranking in Alabama (No. 4 in SEC ranking). Just like Big Ten, the winners of these games have received two other two offensive shows for the conference. Therefore, suppose the favorite victory for these games, which means Tennessee and Alabama advanced.

As for ACC and Big 12, it is not fully known how weekends will look at the conference championship. The Administrative Coordination Committee recently mentioned an idea where it can get the hero of its conference in the normal season this week, which means that the teams are in second and third place in the ordinary season ranking in the other spontaneous marina at the conference.

For this exercise, let’s send to the two teams who finished first and number 2 in the regular season of ACC and Big 12 to CFP. This means that SMU and Clemson will be submitted by the Administrative Coordination Committee, while the state of Arizona and the state of Iowa have advanced among the 12 adults. It was easy to find out.

As for the three spots in time, this is where things may become a little difficult. Notre Dame ranked fifth in the final CFP survey, which means that it is likely to occupy these price offers. If we go through the classifications, Miami (Florida) and the first Miss have received the last two spots. However, none of these teams on the weekend in the conference championship during this exercise, leading to some possible ambiguity in collecting this field. Currently, let’s send Miami and the first Miss to CFP.

Here is how this field, which includes 16 teams, would look at this format, using the final CFP categories:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Pennsylvania State
  5. Notradam
  6. Ohio
  7. Tenisi
  8. Indiana
  9. Boys State
  10. Smu
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Miami (Florida)
  14. Miss first queen
  15. Clemerson
  16. Iowa state

The first two teams: South Carolinaand Byu

One of the ideas that are put forward there for the 16-team CFP is for the top seed to get a dual good farewell and a seed round number 13-16. This means that Miami will host the state of Iowa, which was the Pop-Tarts Paul match last season, and will host Olis Miss Clemerson. As for the match in the second round, Ohio would host Alabama, and will host Notre Dame, Arizona. Oregon also avoided Ohio in the quarter -finals thanks to the straight seeds.

5+11 format

Perhaps this is the easiest five forms to be understood. In this coordination, the winners of the top five conference winners were in addition to 11 teams in the highest in 2024 CFP.

Here is how it seemed that:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Pennsylvania State
  5. Notradam
  6. Ohio
  7. Tenisi
  8. Indiana
  9. Boys State
  10. Smu
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Miami (Florida)
  14. Miss first queen
  15. South Carolina
  16. Clemerson

The first two teams: byu, Iowa State

In the possible scenario there was a “weekend”, we had seen two conferences. Miami hosted Clemeson after the Tigers team won the ACC star, while Ole Miss South Carolina hosted. This coordination changed only the last two seeds of the previous coordination, as South Carolina occupied the Iowa state in this field. He would have left 12 Big 12 with only one team in the tournament.

4+4+2.5+2.5+1+2 format

This coordination is similar to the first coordination that we mentioned. The only difference is that there will be another automatic offer for the ACC team or Big 12 will get a third automatic offer, depending on the third conference team in the highest. As a result, there were less than a large spot.

For briefing, let’s assume that the same eight teams of Big Ten and SEC in the first coordination receive the eight automatic bids between the two conferences in this coordination. Let’s also assume that SMU, Clemson, Arizona State and IOWA also receive the first two automatic shows from each of them, ACC and Big 12.

This would leave Miami and Bio the two teams in the third place of the Administrative Coordination Committee and 12 Big 12 in search of the other automatic qualifying spot. Miami was the high team of Monday (No. 13 for BYU Classification No. 17), which means that hurricanes will advance to CFP. But if CFP really wants to be creative, it may have the difference in third place in ACC and Big 12 Go directly for this place.

Again, Boise State was the highest group of 5 conference hero, so she would have received a place in this format. Notre Dame ranked fifth in the final CFP survey, so it has been likely to have been given one of the last offers. Ole Miss was the second highest non -automatic non -automatic team, likely to give it a pavement in CFP.

Here is what the 16 teams field seemed to be in this coordination:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Pennsylvania State
  5. Notradam
  6. Ohio
  7. Tenisi
  8. Indiana
  9. Boys State
  10. Smu
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Miami (Florida)
  14. Miss first queen
  15. Clemerson
  16. Iowa state

The first two teams outside: South Carolina, byu

This coordination had produced the same sixteen teams and seeds just like the first coordination that we mentioned. The big difference is that the slight disk gave Miami an automatic offer, as none of the other formats gave hurricanes a guaranteed place in this field last season. It would also give some stability to ACC or Big 12, as the conference team is usually not ranked third in the first ten place of the final CFP survey.

4+4+3+3+1+1 format

In this proposed format, both ACC and Big 12 will get three automatic qualifiers, while Big Ten and SEC will still get four. There will also be an automatic qualification for the highest group of conference champion 5 to keep pace with one show.

As with the other two examples where Big Ten and SEC get four automatic qualifiers, we will assume that the same eight teams enter into this field via the weekend at the conference. How will ACC and Big 12 will determine the three automatic qualifications in this scenario is guessing anyone, but the simplest way is that there are two better teams in each conference in the normal season that occupies two of these sites, while the third will be determined through the gameplay. If the high team wins in those games, he will get SMU, Clemson and Miami representing the Administrative Coordination Committee, while Arizona, Iowa, and BYU will receive the three major automatic qualifiers.

Again, Boise State will be a group of 5 representatives, and Notre Dame is likely to occupy a single place.

Here is how the field will be in this scenario:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Pennsylvania State
  5. Notradam
  6. Ohio
  7. Tenisi
  8. Indiana
  9. Boys State
  10. Smu
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Miami (Florida)
  14. Clemerson
  15. Iowa state
  16. Byu

The first two teams outside: Oli Miss, South Carolina

The big difference in this coordination is Ole Miss that will not be eligible to get CFP because it was not finished in the first six positions of the Supreme Education Council, and the highest rank was not the remainder to get a long time. The potential weekend in this scenario included battles from ACC-Big 12, while the 12 best seeds remain consistent with the other three formats that we have gone so far.

14 team format: 4+4+2+2+1+1

Although it seems unlikely, the coordination of 14 teams is still on the table for the last round of CFP expansion. The most common coordination is characterized by a separate match of 14 teams with four automatic offers for Big Ten and SEC, while ACC and Big 12 get two each of each. The highest -ranked group of 5 conference champions will get an automatic offer, while there is a big offer for the remaining team.

This coordination is similar to the first coordination that we mentioned; It only has two AT-Large bids. Therefore, the four teams representing Big Ten and SEC will remain the same in our practice scenario. The same applies to ACC (SMU, Clemson) and 12 Big 12 (Arizona and Iowa state), but as we mentioned earlier, it is not clear that each of these conferences will do on the weekend of the conference championship if it has two automatic shows.

Just like other formats, Boise State (the highest group of 5 heroes) and Notre Dame (AT-Large is the highest level) will make this field.

Here is how a CFP format would have 14 teams like last season:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Pennsylvania State
  5. Notradam
  6. Ohio
  7. Tenisi
  8. Indiana
  9. Boys State
  10. Smu
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Clemerson
  14. Iowa state

The first two teams outside: Miami, Oli Miss

The 12 best seeds in this format will remain the same compared to the other four formats, but this is the first format that does not include Miami.

The weekend will not be in the format of 14 teams. Oregon and Georgia had received the first round, as the other 12 teams blogged it. Some of these matches from the first round included a game between the former Big 12 enemies, and Clemson made the trip to Happy Valley to take over the state of Pennsylvania and Alabama facing Ohio.
