I enjoy my low mileage meat food

I’m glad that the impact of ultra-processed foods on the climate is being studied. Not only are they harmful to our health, they also require ingredients to be transported around the world (The hidden cost of ultra-processed foods on the environment: “The whole industry must pay”, USADailyTrends.com, October 8).

Meat and dairy products are often classified as environmentally harmful foods. While it is laudable to encourage people to reduce their intake of animal-based foods and eat more vegetables, nuts and grains, many of them also have to be transported long distances and thus contribute to increased carbon dioxide levels.

The Scottish lamb I purchased is grazed on non-arable land, is slaughtered close to the farm and travels about 100 miles to my plate.
