John Oliver slams, roasts and owns Barry Weiss on ‘Last Week Tonight’ – Twitchy

“Oh my God, did you hear what John Oliver said this weekend,” is the made-up phrase we hear every Monday morning. Oliver, while very funny at times and witty at times, is just Colbert with an accent and a license to drop the F-bomb.

We’ve written about Oliver in the past, especially his crazy stance on transgender issues. Spoiler: Confirms that there is no evidence that biological males have a physical advantage over biological females.

In an amazing display of bravery, he turned last week’s episode of anger on Barry Weiss.

As you may recall, Weiss was named editor-in-chief of CBS News. She has been a popular punching bag for the establishment because she holds views unacceptable to the gatekeepers of the narrative.

What is both typical and terrible is how media bosses and their allies are suddenly concerned about the loss of media integrity when it is their side that does not dominate. Oddly enough, George Stephanopoulos’s decades of work at ABC News never bothered any of them.

Oliver then dissected her publication, Free Press, which he said imposed an “obvious theme” that “the left has gone too far.”

Yes and?

Oliver appears to have a blind spot regarding CBS News’ overt left-wing bias. There was no concern when CBS published this gem.
Not to mention their blatantly partisan handling of the 2024 presidential campaign.

But hey, they have actual journalistic experience!

Is Oliver correctly suggesting that it came from a side of opinion? Yes. Is he suggesting that billionaires on both sides are buying the media to advance their agenda? Yes. He even goes on to suggest that her prank at the Federalist Society was a joke.

All that said, the entire clip is a mixture of attacks and laugh lines. It boils down to going after Barry because she’s going after their sacred cows.

Translation: “She is able to think independently and not affiliated with the Democratic National Committee.”

If Oliver had been on the right, he could have run a similar job at the New York Times for its journalistic malfeasance.

Oh, and Oliver is definitely not the one to judge the truth.

So, the clapping seals got their own applause lines, and Oliver was able to walk up to the camera and fend off Weiss’ attack on his schedule.

We’ll have to wait and see how Weiss runs CBS and how well John Oliver has his hands full.
