California gubernatorial candidate and former Democratic lawmaker Katie Porter admitted she “could have handled things better” after viral videos emerged capturing her outbursts against a reporter and a staffer.

In one video, Porter became upset with a reporter and nearly cut off the interview. In an old video that Politico reported was from 2021, the politician attacked a staffer, saying: “Get out of your f***ing shot!” After the person entered the video frame behind Porter.

“When I look at these videos, I want people to know that I understand that I could have handled things better,” Porter said. On Inside California Politics. “I think I’m known as someone who can handle tough questions, who’s willing to answer questions, and I want people to know that I really appreciate the great work my employees can do.”

“I think people who know me know that I can be difficult, but I need to do a better job of expressing my appreciation for the great work my team does,” she added.

The clip of Porter threatening to quit CBS California’s Julie Watts show during an interview last week has gone viral.

Porter objected to Watts’ questions, seemed impatient with her follow-ups, and even tried to leave at one point out of frustration, calling the interviewer “argumentative.” Pressed, Porter told Watts that she “didn’t want to have an unhappy experience” with her and that she didn’t “want it all to come out on camera.”

“I want to make sure people understand why I’m in this race and what I’m fighting for,” Porter said this week on Inside California Politics. “I think when I travel to the state, what I hear from people is that they understand that we’re in a very extraordinary moment.” “What’s going on with Donald Trump’s attack on our economy and our society, and the long-term challenges we face with affordability, people know they’re going to need someone who’s going to be tough, who’s going to be tough, who’s going to be a fighter and who’s going to push.”

“You were in my picture before that,” Porter said. “Stay out of my shot.”

Porter revealed this week that she had apologized to that employee.
