Lakers star Luka Doncic is sidelined due to injuries to his finger and leg

Lakers guard Luka Doncic will miss at least a week with a sprained left index finger and a bruise on his lower left leg, the team announced Sunday ahead of a road game in Sacramento.

The star guard suffered a finger injury early in Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. But that didn’t slow him down at all, as Doncic finished with 49 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the Lakers’ 128-110 win. The 26-year-old is off to a hot start as he has 92 points in the first two games, the most in Lakers history to start a season.

The Lakers announced that Doncic will be re-evaluated in about one week, but it will be crowded without the five-time All-Star. Already without LeBron James as the 40-year-old suffers a sciatica injury, the Lakers play four games in six days this week. After Sacramento on Sunday, the Lakers (1-1) return to Los Angeles to face Portland on Monday and play road games at Minnesota and Memphis on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

The Lakers will be reduced to just nine players on record contracts on Sunday, as center Jackson Hayes was also ruled out due to left knee soreness. He will miss his second match in a row. James and forwards Maxi Kleber (abdominal muscle strain) and Ado Theroux (knee) will also be out.
