Michael Cerveris to play Scrooge in Jack Thorne’s adaptation of “A Christmas Carol”


Two-time Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris (Fun home, Sweeney Todd) Ebenezer Scrooge will be played in Jack Thorne’s adaptation of Dickens Christmas carol at New York’s Perelman Center for the Arts off Broadway this holiday season.

The engagement marks the return to New York of the Old Vic production, which played a limited engagement on Broadway in 2019, winning five Tony Awards including Best Original Score. The play, directed by Matthew Warchus, premiered at the Old Vic in London in 2017 and will stage its ninth consecutive holiday season this year.

Shows begin Sunday, November 23, with an opening on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The limited run at the lower Manhattan venue runs through Sunday, December 28.

Thorne conditioning (Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildNetflix Adolescence), the PAC NYC production will be directed by Thomas Caruso.

The 2019 Broadway show featured Campbell Scott, Lachanze, and Andrea Martin.
