NBC News is preparing to launch an ad-free subscription streaming service


Under CEO Cesar Conde, NBC News has rolled out a long line of broadcast products that provide digitally savvy news fans with access to “Today,” “Dateline” and more. Now, the company will offer all its content in one basket.

The new service will make all of NBC News’ content, from linear show episodes to existing podcasts and podcasts, available in one app, along with new exclusive reports and live channels from local NBC-owned stations Telemundo, Sky and NBC Sports. The subscription will also include NBC News Now, the live news service that provides readers with deeper reporting on breaking news. A distinctive name and specific price were not revealed.

The latest details of the new service, which was first revealed in February, were previously reported by Axios. NBC News executives are expected to fully brief employees later this week.

NBC News is creating an entirely new package as rival CNN, part of Warner Bros., focuses on its focus. Discovery, with a new take on a subscription-based digital product that provides access to its flagship cable network along with on-demand special programming and curated ongoing news coverage – some of which will not be provided via linear means.

The new services aim to appeal to a growing segment of consumers who are not accustomed to watching a linear television network when the news breaks, but are instead turning to social media or digital video.

NBC News executives expect the new offering to be used “on the go,” with a greater focus on vertical video. The belief is that it won’t cannibalize audiences for other productions, which also include the FAST “Dateline” channel and the formatted “Today” broadcast.
