Nebraska’s all-black threads headline its college football uniforms in Week 10

With head coach Matt Rhule’s contract extended Thursday, and a ranked opponent coming to town on Saturday, Week 10 looks like a prime opportunity for Nebraska to make a statement.

Fittingly, the Cornhuskers’ uniforms for their showdown with the No. 23 ranked USC Trojans are already a statement.

Nebraska will wear black on Saturday night.

Traditionally known for their classic red and white, the Cornhuskers will shake things up in preparation for the Trojans’ visit to Lincoln. The alternate uniforms will feature a monochromatic look – black jerseys and shorts with white numbers and accents. The look comes with a unique helmet that stays the same theme as well, with a white shell featuring the school’s classic “N” logo and a single stripe, both in black.

Nebraska isn’t the only school wearing soft threads this week. Here are the best uniforms from around the college football world in Week 10:

Between Boise State in Week 5 and Utah this week, it seems fair to wonder if hand-painted helmets are emerging as a unifying college football trend — and we’re here for it if so.

Just like the Bronco covers, impeccable detailing is the hallmark of hand-painted Utes helmets. The primary color is black, which contrasts with the Utah Circle’s version and the feather logo colored in multiple shades of red. A reference to “MUSS” – the Mighty Utah Student Section – is located on the front of the helmets, above the face mask.

Utah isn’t the only team to opt for memorable helmets this week, as Ole Miss is sporting unique covers of its own.

Rebel helmets have come in many colors over the years, with red, white and variations of blue being the usual staples. However, on Saturday, Ole Miss will opt for a new shade: gray. The school’s script logo will still be prominent in red, but now on a patterned stone gray background.

It’s the weekend in Knoxville, and Tennessee is relishing the spooky atmosphere by donning its Dark Mode uniforms for a marquee showdown against Oklahoma.

Few teams can offer an all-black alternative like the Volunteers, who trade in the white of their classic orange-and-white swatches for an all-black base. Alternate stripe highlights include a wide orange helmet stripe and bright matching numbers and accents.

Looking to snap a disappointing losing streak, North Carolina State is calling on an unexpected source to help generate some momentum for its Friday night game against Syracuse: the throwback uniforms.

Featuring splashes of black that highlight the Tar Heels’ signature light blue and white color scheme, the vintage threads include a distinctive collar outline and a large font pattern of numbers.
