“It’s important to me that they can survive,” George Clooney says of his children, and invites them to watch his handyman skills on their farm in France, including “repairing…the automatic swimming pool cover” (Report, October 7). It strikes me that he and I live in two different worlds, with very different definitions of “survival” and “farm.”

My favorite TV interpretation was during a documentary about jazz (Letters, October 6). Thelonious Monk has been described as “the loneliest monk”, which I assume is why he produced such great music, as there was no one to distract him.
