Sean Payton fumes over row with Russell Wilson, says comments were about Jackson Dart
The public confrontation between Sean Payton and former quarterback Russell Wilson extended beyond the Week 7 matchup between the Broncos and Giants. As expected, Payton responded to Wilson Broncos coach described as ‘classless’ On social media — That, in response to comments Payton made after last Sunday’s dramatic win over the Giants, regarding Wilson as a backup to Jackson Dart.
Wilson apparently took issue with Payton saying he hoped the Giants wouldn’t trade Wilson for Dart until “well after our game,” but Payton responded Wednesday that his original comment “It was strictly about dart“And in no way, in any way, anything was directed at Ross.”
“I might be able to see how he might realize it, but after winning and watching how [Dart] I played, and this was not [my] “Absolutely intentional,” Payton said.
While Payton enjoyed a legendary partnership with Drew Brees during his years with the Saints, he and Wilson had one of the ugliest quarterback-coach relationships in NFL history. Even the feud between former Cowboys coach Barry Switzer and QB Troy Aikman seemed tame by comparison.

Conversely, Wilson is trying to find his professional footing after having an up-and-down season in Pittsburgh and losing his job this season in New York to the Darts, who appear to be this year’s version of the Knicks.
