“She is still strong after 54 years”: 17 studied gifts that last – and will not end in the landfill Life and elegance
IOur consumer culture can feel gifts as a large group of pressure: error, and this present ends in the back of the cabinet, and it is given again or, in the worst case, in the landfill.
The trick is to find something immortal but not boring; Good and useful thing. We have asked you for the gifts you gave or received that still cherish (and go strong) years – often decades – later.
Gifts that are the most recent
Good -made T -shirt
In 1995, my new girlfriend was given a striped seas shirt from the French brand ARMOR-LUX. Heavy cotton quality. She told me that I was crazy to give her a shirt costing 100 Deutschmarks. Thirty years later, she is my wife and still loves to wear the shirt. The ballet seems a little bit, but it must have more than 1000 wash. The product is still available and manufactured in Bretani. Overcoming this value, fast fashion. Mark Kaminski

Eternal games
My children gave the Bruce train group when they were young and spent hours playing with it (they are now 36 and 37). We kept the group, hoping to be descendants. We now have two, and the trains come out again on their way through our house, are still good like new. Brio is heading to the family heritage situation in our house! Margaret

Handmade pottery
The best gifts you gave were hand -made pottery. When I was a teenager in the eighties of the last century, I started buying pieces of POIDE Row Pottery in Worthing (now closed) for the family. You can always find a local Potter that makes the things you love. You can buy practical dishes. Salt River for cooking or food lovers; The vases or vessels of a person you know better; The mug of a colleague. Pottery continues, good pieces are immortal and every home is better for some. Nearly 55 years old, she did not survive my wedding. The person who is Orange Le Creuset Pan presented to us my sister. He was in regular use throughout these years, and although he does not seem just beautiful as it was 55 years ago (and who does?), He still does his job as well. Genetic
My favorite present was a large mine -based ceramic in 1971 at my first wedding and still strong. I use it to cook for my third husband, and certainly my husband. Pam Smulwood

Silifolk silicone accumulation cups are an excellent gift for children. I bought a few groups because a small relative was especially happy with the one she received. They have numbers to learn to count, patterns and holes to use as water/bathroom/sand games, all while taking a very small space. Angela

Classic umbrella
I got the Duckhead umbrella for nearly 20 years – a little miracle given that I received it as a birthday gift when I was still at university. It is a great quality umbrella, and it is difficult to miss, which may have been able to not lose it. Monica horror
Kitchen tools
When her son got married in 1974, my mother -in -law gave me, among many other things, a stainless steel jug. I divorced for 33 years, and my dear dear mother -in -law died last year, but the jug continues to rotate with no sign of that! Dot Unwin

Nail file
My friend gave me a glass nail file as a birthday gift, and I got it 30 years ago. I use it for most weeks because I constantly break my nails. It is the kindness on your nails from the Emery plate and gives a nice final. I always keep it in my handbag. Linda Pennington

Practical yard
Denim Square that my darling bought for me. It is a piece of Jay Rainer “outside lunch” goods [no longer available]. The quality is great, and it has pockets and washing like the new every time, which is great due to the amount of cooking and chaos that I create a weekly. Caroline Jackson

My parents gave me the first Playmobil collection as Christmas Ciet in 1980 – thieves with a horse. He will be 45 years old soon and still is a valuable part of my group today: he is in good condition, especially given that he passed through cowboy, gym sessions and diving competitions and God knows what.
