Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders, who he coached at the University of Colorado, has been the subject of massive media scrutiny and speculation dating back to the time of his draft in April.

After the Browns traded veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this week, fans and pundits speculated on whether Sanders would be promoted to the second-string job or remain in a third-string role behind Billy Zappe.

The quarterback was the subject of one of the most shocking slides in NFL Draft history in April, when he fell from the No. 1 overall prospect to the 144th pick in the fifth round.

Sanders’ section included comments from an anonymous assistant coach who said Sanders was “the worst official interview I’ve ever had. He deserves it. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has terrible body language. He blames his teammates. … But the biggest thing is he’s not good.”

An anonymous longtime executive added: “It wasn’t great in our interview. He wants to dictate to you what he’s going to do and what’s best for him. He makes you feel small.”

NFL Hall of Fame Eric Dickerson He raised conspiracy theories regarding Sanders in an August interview, claiming that NFL teams were “told not to” draft Sanders “to make an example” of the quarterback when he fell in the fifth round.

“I tell you this a lot, what I heard from someone in the NFL [is] Which the NFL said [teams]’Don’t coin it. “Don’t draft him,” Dickerson said in an interview on AM 570 LA Sports’ “Roggin and Rodney” show.

“‘We will make an example of him.’” And this came from a very good source, a very good source. They were going to keep him out of the draft to basically show you that “this is what happens when you do this.” I mean, look, the NFL has all kinds of power. They do all kinds of things.”

Sanders’ withdrawal from the first round shocked many, including President Trump, who sent out a post on Truth Social condemning the league’s owners for passing on the quarterback.

“What’s wrong with NFL owners, are they stupid? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, and very smart! So, his son, Sheder, the quarterback, has exceptional genes, and is ready for greatness,” Trump wrote. “He should be selected immediately by the team that wants to win. Good luck Chidor, and say hello to your wonderful father!”

ESPN host Stephen A. revealed: Smith reported on a text message from a colleague that compared the situation to Colin Kaepernick being out of the NFL since 2016, suggesting “collusion.”

“This is a bad look for the NFL. This looks like collusion on a Kaepernick level,” Smith said of the content of the text, adding that the situation goes beyond “talent evaluation.”

“All the hard work the NFL office puts into eliminating these types of perceptions, only to turn around and watch while the owners seem to collude and screw everything up. What was done to Scheder will trump everything else in this draft. We will never believe it’s just about evaluating talent again.”

Sanders has yet to get into an NFL regular season game, but his first could come as soon as Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers if rookie and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel is forced out of the game for any reason.
