Stephen Robinson hopes St Mirren can get back on track

Manager Stephen Robinson hopes St Mirren can “get back on track again” after a 2-0 defeat in their previous match against Kilmarnock.

Robinson’s side went into the international break disappointed to lose to Stuart Kettlewell’s men, despite winning the Premier League Trophy quarter-final on penalties at the same venue.

The Buddies, who are fifth in the Premier League table with nine points, now host bottom club Aberdeen, a team who have struggled so far this season but are on the verge of winning again in the league.

Aberdeen are winless in their last 10 league visits to St Mirren since a 2-1 win in December 2018, but Robinson insists that has nothing to do with Saturday’s clash.

“We learned from that [defeat to Kilmarnock] We trained well this week. “It feels like we’re back to ourselves again,” Robinson said.

“We reset ourselves this week. We know what we are. We have an identity and we’ve done a very good job with that identity.”

“If we play at the level we can, I think we can get a result.

“We’re not afraid of anyone. We’ve played very well at home. We’ve had a relatively good start to the season and… [a good result] It will maintain our position in the top six.

“It’s one game, it doesn’t matter what happened before. Again, we need to be at our best to beat Aberdeen whenever we play.

“We know we are facing a team full of talented players. The league table does not matter at this moment. It is irrelevant.

“Jimmy [Thelin] He put a lot of money into the team and got great support from Dave Cormack which is great for Aberdeen.

“We have to be at our best. I’m confident we’ll do well and a little bit of luck along the way will be good.”

After a spate of injuries to the squad, St Mirren could have three key players back.

Captain Mark O’Hara, midfielder Keanu Bacchus and defender Marcus Fraser could all return to the matchday squad after recovering from injury.

“Whether they start or not remains to be seen. They will definitely participate. They have been through training in the last three days,” the St Mirren coach added.

“All three are available for selection, which gives me some difficult selection issues, which is what we want.

“When we had midfield Keanu, Mark [O’Hara] And Killian Phillips, we haven’t lost a game this season.”
