Still Stephen A. Smith is considering facing LeBron James on the court, and he told the former NBA star why he felt “set up” by the league’s all-time leading scorer at that moment.
Smith and James went viral earlier this year during a Los Angeles Lakers game, with the latter confronting the former in his courtside seat to seemingly respond to Smith’s criticism of how the Lakers treated Bronny James, the star’s son.
Smith revealed in March that the incident arose because of his televised criticism of Bruni.

Smith and LeBron James still have some beef ahead of the 2025-2026 NBA season. (to imagine)
“That wasn’t a basketball player facing me. That was a father. That was a father,” Smith said on ESPN at the time. “I can’t sit here and be angry or insulted by LeBron James in this regard. By all accounts, he is clearly a wonderful family man and a father who cares deeply about his son.”
During a recent episode of “7 PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony,” Smith revisited that moment with the New York Knicks legend, saying that the circumstances of the conversation with James as well as how it appeared on camera still didn’t sit well with him.

“The day he attacked me on the field was the day my contract with ESPN was announced,” Smith explained on the podcast. “Go back and look at the camera angle… This is the year 2025, we have technology everywhere. TNT is a nationally televised game. How did we get one angle, and the only angle you saw was of him and his face, but you see the back of my peanut head?”
Smith believes that, given James’ star status, there could have been multiple camera angles of the pitch-side meeting.
“There’s no way you’re in the arena, you’re LeBron James, and the only angle someone sees is a straight shot of you crashing into my face,” Smith added. “They don’t see any reaction. They don’t see anything. And this is just an accident?”

Smith delved into the realm of conspiracy here, but he stood his ground when expressing his feelings about the possibility of a staged confrontation.
“I really did,” Smith quickly answered a question about whether or not he felt ready. “That’s how I feel. But it’s no big deal, no problem because I go on air the next day and say: ‘This is a father’s reaction to his son.’
And in case you’re wondering, no, Smith and James haven’t reconciled. In fact, Smith clearly stated how he feels about James.

“I don’t like–, not a little,” he said. “This goes back over a decade. I’m not going to go into detail about the things this man tried to do to me. You don’t understand how far this man can go… If it had been up to him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s some pretty low stuff.”
The beef is real between these two, and it doesn’t look like there will be any correction before the 2025-26 season this week.
