Taylor Swift’s liberal association with whiteness is scarier than if she were MAGA – Twitchy

I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift. I can recognize a few of her songs, and I love “Back in December,” but it came out in 2010, when she was just an up-and-coming country singer. I remember writing a few posts years ago about how Swift’s silence on politics was deafening. Why didn’t you talk about politics? As if she was obligated to do so. “One of the biggest pop stars in the world doesn’t want to talk about politics. Is that okay?” It was a Politico headline.

The perfectly sane Rob Reiner posted in 2024 that he was busy filming the sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, which has come and gone, and as much as he would love to have Swift appear, “I would give her anything to endorse Joe Biden. She will almost single-handedly save American democracy.” Well, she endorsed Joe Biden, just as she endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024, calling her a “talented and tenacious leader.” The Republic was saved without Swift’s help.

Ben Dreyfus published an article headline on Dr. Melissa Fabello’s personal website that is very amusing.

Fabelo He writes:

What I want to talk about here are the criticisms that The life of a showgirl It is part of the magnum opus of white supremacy. Because I neither completely agree with this sentiment (people say this is a dog whistle for far-right extremism; I think this takes it thirteen steps further), nor do I disagree with it (hordes of white Swifties are coming out of the woodwork screaming in defense of Swift’s purity).

I think it’s complicated.

What’s more, I believe that within this complexity lies a more insidious (and therefore more horrific) problem: liberal white women’s ignorance of their whiteness.

Is Taylor Swift racist? Yes.

Is she actively and explicitly anti-black? Trump supporter? Pro-eugenics? i doubt it.

But that’s actually what worries me most: that there are a lot of liberal white women moving through the world who never make the connection between their whiteness and white supremacy.

So she’s racist because she doesn’t recognize her white privilege? Is this it?

I should post more, because it’s ridiculous:

Are Trump supporters carrying the flag and chanting MAGA a problem? Yes. They are terrifying. But the biggest obstacle to eliminating fascism is not right-wing extremists.

They are the “liberals”. It’s “progressivism.” They are the Democrats.

They are the people with “BLM” on their resume who live in majority-white suburbs and send their kids to private schools. They are the people who claim to be allies of the queer and trans communities and then throw gender reveal parties at conception. They are the people who look at the United States’ descent into fascism and ask, “How did we get here?” It is people who compare the migration of their European ancestors to what black and brown immigrants experience today, as if race does not matter.

It’s Taylor Swift — and the majority of her fans.

Taylor Swift is a white woman whose success relies on cultural narratives about the fragility and purity of white womanhood, while practicing no interrogation of her whiteness.

Her fans rush to her defense whenever she is criticized. “But she publicly endorsed Kamala Harris!” They press on, not realizing that this proves the important point: moderate policies dressed as the left stand no chance against right-wing extremism, a lesson I hope the Democratic Party learns.

She is a white woman whose success depends on cultural narratives about the fragility and purity of white womanhood. As our correspondent Just Mindy wrote just a few weeks ago, after Swift announced her engagement, the Nazis “can’t stand that Taylor Swift is now living the American dream of getting married, having kids and settling down. They know this will inspire young women to do the same. It’s their worst nightmare.”

One person posted: “Left feminists are falling apart. Saying Taylor Swift is part of the ‘alt-right pipeline’, is a ‘crypto business wife’ and is ‘giving off Nazi vibes’ all because she wants to do ‘natural women’ things’ like get married and have kids.

I was curious to know what Fabello’s PhD was, so I checked out her CV:

Melissa A. Fabello, Ph.D She is a sex and relationship educator who uses her backgrounds in educational theory, developmental psychology, holistic life coaching, and sexuality research to help you be in healthy relationships with yourself and others. In her one-on-one coaching work, she helps you clarify your values, own your truth, and build new relationship skills. As a queer woman, she believes strongly in the power of community care, which is what her work is rooted in.

No, it’s not a great satire of liberalism.

For $2000, will you come to your house and tell you and your friends how racist you all are? This is a popular trick.
