An attorney for Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier criticized the FBI on Thursday after his client was arrested as part of officials’ wide-ranging investigation into illegal gambling.

James Trusty, of Ifrah Law PLLC, said in a statement: “We have represented Terry Rozier for over a year. Long ago we reached out to these plaintiffs to tell them that we should have an open line of communication. They described Terry as a subject, not a target, but at 6 a.m. this morning they called to tell me that FBI agents were trying to arrest him at a hotel.”
“It is unfortunate that instead of letting him surrender, they chose to take a photo op. They wanted the misplaced glory of embarrassing a professional athlete with a walk. That tells you a lot about the motivations in this case. They seem to be taking the word of astonishingly unreliable sources rather than relying on actual evidence of wrongdoing. Terry was acquitted by the NBA and These plaintiffs revive this unimportant case. “He’s not a gambler, but he’s not afraid to fight, and he’s looking forward to winning this fight.”
Rozier was allegedly involved in a scheme to manipulate statistics so his alleged co-conspirators could profit from backer bets.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the NBA and the Heat for comment.

NBA LEGEND CHAUNCEY BILLUPS, Heat’s Terry Rozier arrested as part of FBI gambling investigation
The NBA confirmed in January that Rozier was under investigation by federal prosecutors on suspicion of an illegal betting scheme. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report Rozier’s allegations.
The NBA said it looked into the matter at the time and did not find any league rules had been violated.
“In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” the league told the Wall Street Journal in January. “The league conducted an investigation and found no violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of the investigation being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York regarding this matter and are cooperating with that investigation.”
The game in question for Rozier was played on March 23, 2023, in a game between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. Rozier played the first 9 minutes and 36 seconds of that game — and not only did he not return that night with a foot issue, but he did not play again that season. Charlotte had eight games remaining and was not in playoff contention, so it was not particularly unusual for Rozier to be shut down in the final games of the season.

In that game on March 23, Rozier finished with five points, four rebounds and two assists in that opening period — a productive quarter, but far below his usual production totals in a full game.
