The Asian elephant Rose-Tu generates 200 pounds in the Oregon Zoo Oregon

The Origon Zoo in Portland welcomed its latest addition, the child’s elephant.

The zoo said in a press statement that the thirty -year -old Asian elephants were born on Saturday after 20 months of pregnancy. It seems that a female calf is 200 pounds (90 kg), but the zoo staff give the spouses to connect before the first examination to confirm weight and sex.

“We cannot be happier with how everything is going yet,” said Steve Levav, who oversees the elephant program in the zoo. “This was one of the most smooth births that I saw at all. Rose only knew what to do. She immediately helped her child. The child was standing alone within 15 minutes and took her first steps shortly after that.”

Keelsey Wallace of the Zoo Telecom team said on Tuesday that Rose Tu and her child, who is breastfeeding, walked well.

The calf is the third Rose Tu child. Bakr, 16 -year -old Samudra lives in the zoo. The second calf, night, died of a virus in 2018, before she was six years old.

It may take some time before the new child and Rose-To are ready for visitors. Levav said that the employees want to make sure that the calf is still working well, and that Rose Tu is calm and comfortable with people around it.

He said, “Rose or wonderful.” It is very nice and protective, and the calf is already well breastfed. These are signs that they have a strong bond, and it is exactly what we want to see. We are ready to help if necessary, but so far my mother and the child are fine on their own. “

The zoo supports a wide range of efforts to help wild elephants, and the elephant care program has extended for more than 60 years, according to its statement.
