The huge power outage hit Spain and Portugal

Red Electrica, the Spanish power network operator, said it is working with energy companies to restore energy after large parts of Spain and Portugal were subjected to power outages on Monday.

The Spanish Electricity Network Monitoring Company, E-Edes, said in a statement that it is working to re-establish a communication in stages.

“This is a wider European problem,” he added.

Spanish radio stations said that part of Madrid underground was being evacuated. There were traffic jams in the center of Madrid, where traffic lights stopped working, according to a traffic station station.

Portuguese police said that traffic lights were affected throughout the country, the metro was closed in Lisbon and Porto, and the trains were not operating.
