The Detroit Lions were hoping the long drive to start their game Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs would end in a touchdown — and it almost did.
The Lions got the ball to the Chiefs’ one-yard line after Jahmyr Gibbs was blocked from scoring on third down. The team decided to attempt a touchdown on fourth-and-goal.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff was under center with running back David Montgomery behind him. He decided to go left, where Montgomery received the snap. The veteran running back threw the ball to Goff, who bobbled it before regaining control and reaching the end zone for what he thought was a touchdown.
However, officials spoke out about the matter and slapped a penalty mark on the illegal movement. Goff, according to “Sunday Night Football” rules analyst Terry Macaulay, needed to pause for a second before he started moving. The score has been deleted from the board.

Detroit opted for a field goal and took a 3-0 lead. It was a 15-play, 61-yard drive to start the game.
The Lions entered the game with a score of 4-1. Detroit was the highest-scoring team in the NFL this season. After scoring 13 points in a Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Detroit has scored at least 34 points in each of its last four games.
