The Washington Commanders will be without linebacker Frankie Lufo when they host the Detroit Lions next Sunday NFL He was suspended for one game after suffering an injury during a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones. It marked Luvu’s third hip drop tackle this season.

Hip drop manipulation was previously banned NFL Before the 2024 season. Here’s how the league defines illegal play now:

“It is a foul if a player uses the following technique to drop the runner to the ground: (a) grabbing the runner with both hands or wrapping the runner around with both arms; and (b) unweighting himself by rotating and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on the runner’s leg(s) and trapping them at or below the knee.”

While the penalty for dropping the hip is technically supposed to be a 15-yard penalty, officials are not quick to throw the flag on these plays. We’ve seen many tackles that result in a dropped hip go unpunished on Sundays, but then get fined after the fact. This was the case with Luvu’s offenses as well.

In nine games this season, Luvu has recorded 50 tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and three quarterback hits. With Luvu out for Week 10, Jordan Magee could take his spot in the starting lineup next to veteran Bobby Wagner.

Sunday was brutal for the leaders. Not only did Washington fall to 3-6 and lose Luvu in one game, but quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow, wide receiver and kick returner Luke McCaffrey suffered a broken collarbone and cornerback Marshon Lattimore tore his anterior cruciate ligament.
