The president says he has a buyer of popular application

President Donald Trump has said he has a Tiktok buyer, a video sharing application that was banned in the United States amid allegations that it poses a threat to national security.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said he had a group of “very wealthy” ready to gain the platform. “I will tell you in about two weeks.”

The sale will need approval from the Chinese government, but Trump told Fox that he believed that President Xi Jinping “may do that.”

Trump is late this month for the third time that the application of a law imposes the sale of Tiktok.

The latest extension of the mother company requires that it reach a deal to sell the platform by September 17.

BBC has called Tiktok to comment.

A previous deal to sell Tiktok to an American buyer in April, when the White House clashed with China on the Trump tariff.

It is not clear whether the current buyer Trump says he was the same as the person who was waiting for the wings three months ago.

The US Congress issued a law forcing the sale of Tiktok in April last year, as legislators indicated fears that the application or its mother company can deliver American user data to the Chinese government, which TIKTOK denied.

Trump had criticized the application during his first term, but he came to see him as a factor in his victory in the elections in 2024 and is now supporting his continuous use in the United States.

The law was supposed to enter into force on January 19, but Trump has repeatedly delayed its implementation through the executive procedures, which caused criticism to overcome the legislators in Congress.

Tijook challenged the constitutionality of the law, but it has appealed it before the US Supreme Court.
