‘The worm turns’: Armie Hammer says he’s booking acting jobs again, after scandal

Armie Hammer says his career is gaining momentum again after publicly stepping away from Hollywood in 2021.

On the January 1st episode of “Your Mother’s House” Podcasthosted by Christina Pazsetsky and Tom Segura, the “Call Me By Your Name” star shared how he has moved on with his life since multiple allegations of cannibalism and sexual assault derailed his acting career, despite being investigated by the Los Angeles Police. He was never charged.

“I was the fifth most searched-for person in the world. And it was all negative. You were left standing there naked in front of the world while the world judged your every inclination or kinks,” Hammer said, reflecting on the controversy surrounding his career:* *It’s difficult.

The actor maintained that the relationships he shared with the accused were consensual, but admitted: “I think that somewhere deep down, subconsciously, I wanted to be arrested.”

Since then, these accusations have halted his career. His latest film, Death on the Nile, was released in 2022 and was dropped by talent agent WME. The Golden Globe nominee had to struggle to make ends meet at the time, selling his timeshare in the Cayman Islands as a new source of income. His wife of 13 years, Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he has two children, also filed for divorce in 2020.

Hammer says he’s now back to acting while living modestly in a small apartment, having just wrapped filming a Western called “Frontier Crucible” with co-star William H. Macy. He explained that he is also shooting for two upcoming projects soon. “The worm spins, and it takes time.”

“It’s slow, but generally the conversation now when my name comes up with people in the industry is, ‘Man, this guy got beat up.’ And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging,” he said.

While Hammer does not have talent representation, his attorney bargains his deals. “I wouldn’t say I’m back,” the actor said. [but] I’m working.” But he’s so busy that he “turns down jobs.”

“My dance card is completely full,” he says. “That first job I turned down after four years of this, I mean, it was the best feeling I’ve ever felt.”
