President Donald Trump began the week by making significant progress in reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, and concluded the week by seeking progress in the next global conflict: Ukraine.
Trump met with Israeli lawmakers in the Knesset on Monday, before heading to Egypt, where he met with leaders there in addition to Qatar, Turkey, and other regional powers. The president urged countries in the region to “put old differences and bitter hatred behind us.”
“Finally, we have peace in the Middle East,” Trump told reporters in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. “It’s a very simple expression, peace in the Middle East.”

“We’ve heard it for many years, but no one thought it could ever get there,” Trump said. “And now we are there.”
The Middle East Peace Agreement includes a clause requiring the return of hostages who are still being held within 72 hours of Hamas signing the agreement. The resolution also called on Israeli forces to withdraw their forces and completely disarm Hamas.
Now, Trump said that he will set his sights on resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday at the White House.

While Trump said there is momentum to resolve the conflict in the wake of the Middle East peace agreement, there is “tremendous anger” between Putin and Zelensky that is holding up a solution.
“They have very bad blood,” Trump told reporters. “I think that’s what’s holding up a settlement. I think we’re going to get it done, and we’ve got to make it long-term, as I said in the Middle East, eternal.”
“The Middle East is a much more complicated situation,” Trump said. “You know, we had 59 countries involved, and every single one of them agreed. And that, you know, it’s kind of amazing. Most people didn’t think it was possible to get it done. This would be something that I really think would get done. I had a very good talk yesterday with President Putin. And I think he wants to get it done.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky said Trump has a great opportunity to make progress in brokering an end to the conflict.
“President Trump has really shown the world that he can manage a ceasefire in the Middle East. That’s why I hope he will do it. And we will also have such great success. For Ukraine, it’s a huge opportunity, and I hope President Trump can manage it,” Zelensky said on Friday.
