Tyreek George explains how Gittins helped him at Chelsea
Chelsea youngster Tyreek George has revealed he is really close friends with Jamie Gittens, as he opened up about his relationship with the winger.
Gittens arrived at Chelsea in the summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth an initial £48m, and was one of five attacking signings.
The England Under-21 international has struggled so far this season, although he looked bright when he came on as a substitute in the win over Liverpool.
Tyreek George on his friendship with Jimmy Gittens
Gittins is competing for a place on the left wing with Alejandro Garnacho, while Pedro Neto has also been deployed at times there this season.
The 21-year-old has participated in seven matches in all competitions so far this season, but he started only two of Chelsea’s first seven league matches.
Former Arsenal player Alan Smith feels Gittens has not been an upgrade for the Blues and there is a risk he will become a flop.
However, Gittens produced an impressive display for England Under-21s against Andorra, and George also revealed his friendship with his new team-mate.
“We’re really good friends,” he said, as he was quoted as saying. X.com.
“You always need to compete at a big club, and you will always get that.
“So I feel like he pushed me, I pushed him, that’s the main goal, so it’s good.”
Tyreek George will likely leave in January
George has been given opportunities by Enzo Maresca this season, particularly as a striker, although he was on the verge of leaving the club in the summer.
A move to Fulham collapsed on deadline day, and it has been reported that the 19-year-old is likely to leave during the January window.
Lee Carsley feels George has the attributes to develop into a number nine, but with Delap back for Chelsea, and Marc Guyot and Joao Pedro on their books, it is difficult to see where those minutes will come from.
